Keyboard not working in some games win3x

Played castle of the winds 2, used keyboard no issues. 

Installed Exile, escape from the pit, game loads up, tried to create a party, couldn't type the character name. Minimized it and  opened 'write' couldn't type anything in there. Any ideas?
