  1. Perfect thank you! this worked great. I tried finding the best system wallpaper i could, and placed in that directory, making sure they are 1920x1080 and then went through and cleaned up all the un-needed fanart-background this is much better, looks more cohesive and eliminates dealing with bad quality fanart that was plaguing a lot of the collection so far im not finding good examples to use for some of the more obscure systems like 32X, sega CD, etc but still working on that!
  2. Ok so i got this to work with my Bin / Cue files by creating an additional app for the games that are multidisc. I then call each app "Disc 2", Disc 3, etc The application path is just the same emulator i always use, mednafen then in the additional argument box, i put in the -which_medium X (where x is disc number starting 0-3), then ROM name in quotes This seems to work pretty well. I can select a game, then on game details page choose Additional Apps and a menu pops up and lists the "Disc 2" "Disc 3" etc. I think the only thing that would be great would be a way to link those addition apps to the root level of game details menu? so they show right below "play" and i dont have to have the Addition Apps menu item, and go into and out of that menu. How customizable are the items / links on that game details page? thanks!
  3. When i first started doing emulation, i thought i would just use one of my many Xbox one bluetooth controllers across all systems. While the controller is of course very nice, it was a logistical nightmare trying to create per game configs for systems that had unique controllers, like N64 and Saturn (6 buttons, z trigger, etc) What i ended up doing was buying the best controller option i could for each type of controller i want to replicate For PS1, I use my paired Dualshock 4 For Genesis/32X/SegaCD/Saturn, i use an 8Bitdo M30 bluetooth controller that can cover all those sega platforms perfectly, 6 buttons, the letters match up with the original system, etc For N64 I bought this Bluetooth N64 replica controller (hyperkin admiral) that is awesome, has the C buttons, Z trigger, etc Probably going to buy Retrofighters Dreamcast controller once i start setting that system up the issue i have, is controller automation in BigBox. Original i configured the universal "exit/quit" command to the menu+start button on the xbox one controller. This also happens to map perfectly to my dualshock 4 controller, as it has largely the same layout and using DS4windows, i think it makes Windows think its an xbox controller anyways? This is causing big problems with my saturn and N64 controller though. apparently for the saturn pad, it thinks C+Z is the equivalent of menu+start, so almost any fighting game on saturn where im hammering out combos, it gets hit all the time and kills the game. N64 as well, it seems to be mapping to a shoulder button and one of the c buttons im assuming this is because Bigbox simply sees those buttons as ButtonX and ButtonY, and across those different controllers the button numbers are different? Any way around this to make it work? at this point, going back to one single controller wont really work for reasons mentioned above, so i might have to get rid of controller automation and rely on having a keyboard around to hit the Escape key? just stinks because the big selling point of Bigbox was i could boot the PC up, and then drive everything from a controller without every having to get up,etc thanks!
  4. I was going to sign up for an account on the mednafen forums but seems pretty dead there Im using Mednafen standalone to emulate Saturn and PS1 and it works awesome! got shaders configured, controllers are working great, etc! the last issue i have is thanks to a wide array of resolutions used in games on those platforms, and various issues with overscan, some games fill the vertical space perfectly, others have black bars. i learned you can set "first rendered line" and "last rendered line" to get rid of those spaces, which is perfect (keep in mind my aspect ratio is set to "aspect" as i dont want any weird stretching or widescreen) of course the issue is that games vary wildly on this front, so was looking to do a per-game config. It appears Mednafen supports this by placing config files named after the rom and system in the "pgconfig" directory, but i had a question about the contents do i literally copy the entire "base" mednafen.cfg, make the changes and rename to the game.. or do i only have to have a config file that has the specific lines i want altered for the specific game? in other words, assuming my Saturn core settings are all correct and ONLY want to adjust the slstartp and slendp commands for each game, are only those 2 entries needed, and then it reads config from the "core" saturn cfg file, or does it need to be a direct replica of the full config? sorry if it seems like a dumb question, just not sure how to proceed! thanks!
  5. Ok, i also noticed you have CHD files... im using Bin/CUE and M3U for multidisc i imported all single disc games by selecting CUE file, all multidisc as M3U, since that was supposedly the way to go So is it true that when you "consolidate" these games, it creates the 2nd and later discs as "addition apps"? I really dont want to re-do this whole library, but apparently the emulator im using has a CMD line feature called "-which_medium" so you can specify what disc to start with i wonder if i created a secondary app using that CMD line to the M3U file for each disc, maybe that would work? its mostly important for me to be able to ensure they are all on one standard save file since most games have benefits to sharing data between discs what have you observed via save files in your case? IF i have to redo i suppose i could focus purely on the Multidisc games thanks!
  6. So i have a huge PS1 library in BigBox now. Im using Mednafen standalone which is a great emulator. Ive always been told the proper way to handle multi disc games (of which i have a lot) is to create an M3U playlist for those, which i did. Its just a text document with each line being the name of each discs "cue" file it works great in the emulator itself. anytime i need to change discs, i just press the hotkey to open tray, hotkey to swap discs, etc However there are some games that are multidisc that dont really rely on disc swapping while in game, due to progress, like you would normally see, lets say FF7, most RPG's, etc im thinking of games like Resident Evil 2, Gran Turismo 2, etc where each disc is technically a different mode or option. GT2 has a disc for arcade and one for simulation I thought about breaking the discs out as separate games like i did for FF Anthology And Chonicles since those are truly separate games, but that wont work here because then each is treated as a totally separate game with different saves I had seem some screenshots of BigBox where on the game details screen you can choose which disc to load. This would be perfect! because on the games where you always start with Disc 1, i would do disc swapping as normal. but in games where each disc is a different mode or if i know exactly which disc im on, this would be a great shortcut to just start up Disc 2 in the beginning ive poured through settings in bigbox and cant find anything to show or use this option any ideas? thanks!
  7. Im using the BigBox default theme with horizontal scrolling list of games, using 3d Box art, and it also uses clear logo in upper left and disc image in upper right for the loading screen At first i was on board for using Fanart - Background as i thought it looked great in the back of the game list and during the loading / exiting screens... but its turning out to be a nightmare for so many games that have none. Out of the 150+ PS1 games i have added to collection so far, not even 1/4 can find Fanart - Background during the media scraping process at either gamesdb.launchbox, or the emumovies site. this leads me to spending tons of time scouring google trying to find some kind of wallpaper/fanart related to the game, cutting out parts/reshaping, etc to make it a decent wallpaper. Im at the point where i kind of dont want to bother anymore, but i already have gotten it for the 150 games i already have in the collection. IS there a way to set a single image as the "Fanart-Background" equivalent for any game on a specific platform? Id like to find one really nice quality PS1 background for all PS1 games, one nice one for Saturn, N64, etc and just move away from the Fanart per game, based on lack of it, and lack of quality on some as well (sometimes it will just be a super low res zoomed in portion of the boxart for example) I guess just asking if that single background image for all games is possible, and advice on how you handle your backgrounds when using bigbox thanks!
  8. I have launchbox premium and bigbox, upgraded to latest version just the other day Im using Mednafen standalone for PS1 emulation, and I configured it to map all the buttons on my xbox 360 controller which works great Since im using bigbox and can really drive everything from the controller, thats my end goal. a HTPC I can turn on, and then fully drive from the controller, including exiting games, shutting the PC down (which is a great feature in bigbox!) etc As you know, PS1 has a TON of multidisc games. One problem I cant figure out is, currently you have to use F12/F10 to eject the disc tray, swap discs, etc is there any autohotkey script I could write or controller automation feature where I could press a button combo like back and start to open tray and swap discs? or one button combo to open the tray, then another (like back and A) to swap discs, etc? Its really the very last step to eliminating the need for a keyboard on my setup which is my goal I dont mind putting the work in to figure it out, just dont wanna chase something thats not even possible Also, i really dont want to use some 3rd party program like joy2key that could mess with my controller in ways i dont intend, unless it wouldnt?
  9. Using mednafen standalone for ps1 and the emulation is great however in multidisc games you need to press F6 and F8 to open/close tray and swap discs respectively Since all my regular buttons are assigned to PlayStation buttons, any way to make button combos mimic commands? So holding the back button and Y is equal to f8 and back button and b equal to f6 for example or any other alternate way to handle something like this in launchbox/bigbox
  10. It’s working! I can launch my games from bigbox and Retroarch will auto load my per game controller config a which is great now I’m just trying to figure out a smoother way to map them per game. The Retroarch GUI isnt exactly easy for this
  11. Hope this is an ok place to ask this... im trying to setup this small form factor pc to emulate all the old retro systems I want to play with the kids and launchbox has been great to unify all the emulators in one place this is more of a hardware question though. My pc can seem to handle any old system up to the 32/64 bit era no problem, which is great. N64 has been a struggle but I think that’s more down to n64 emulation in general since some games run great. Getting perfect dark working 100% was a nightmare but I’m there i really wanna introduce GameCube and ps2 to the kids though. Got pcsx2 and dolphin running and tested a few games performance is not so hot. I have an old asus geforce gt710 2gb graphics card I threw in. My tower also has an onboard “intel UHD graphics 630” gpu i was always under the impression a dedicated gpu will always outperform onboard graphics, in this case is that true? I found a website that shows the intel gpu as rated higher in almost all areas. Would I be better pulling the gt710 and running onboard until I can afford a proper card?
  12. Great feedback and thanks! going to download RetroArch and try it since I won’t have to see it’s UI which is great having some issues with n64 games in project64 anyways so maybe mupen64plus will be better?
  13. Bought launchbox premium for big box and loving it so far my goal of having a fully seamless controller only driven emulation pc for my family is almost complete, but I’m struggling with n64 games project64 itself is running fine. Have my 64 rooms all loaded ok and project 64 set as the emulator. It launches and goes full screen from big box no problem controls are a whole other story. In project 64 the c buttons are mapped to right stick so games like goldeneye and perfect dark have a modern FPS feel, same with Turok, etc this doesn’t work well in games that have actions tied to c buttons though like castlevania, Zelda, army men, etc. it doesn’t feel good at all to push an analog stick left to slash a sword for example, it also throws the kids off when they bump the right stick and suddenly sarge dives into prone position for example. has anyone found a way to build custom mapping’s per rom? ive heard RetroArch can do this but isn’t that just another front end like launchbox in a way? I don’t want to use big box just to load RetroArch and then the game. Another option I was going to look at manually building controller layouts in project 64 for each game, saving as named files then leverage a batch file to copy over the top of the default config based on what game I pick, but does launchbox support launching an emulator and specific rom via a batch file? with how popular launchbox and n64 is I’m assuming someone has thought of this before ANy advice? Thanks
