I've read this with interest after heading across from the 2022 Community Poll. Like many other commenters I will be getting a Steam Deck later this year and would like to have Launchbox available there. It would be nice. That said it is not any kind of deal-beaker. Storage issues would quickly arise given the size of my library and there are already some good Steam Deck solutions out there. I'm currently creating a "Greatest Hits" playlist that I will eventually export to my Steam Deck with the aim of keeping it at 512GB.

I'm on the LB train fully, there is no other program I use more and it is utterly awesome.

If you get there and can do it, then great. I wonder if getting "ahead of the game" now would mean more new customers should the Steam Deck really take off but that's a gamble and, right now, only Jason and the staff are in a proper position to assess whether or not to go ahead and devote their finite resources to making it happen. Many of the users currently have lifetime licences already so there is no new revenue stream coming from us, perhaps the Steam Deck could be a real winner and be worth the resources.

I would happily consider paying afresh for a Linux LB build perhaps with a good discount for holding a lifetime licence.

Whatever happens, thanks to you all for Launchbox.

I'm absolutely with you. I will 100% buy another Lifetime License. I got one for Windows and one for Android. But as I greatly prefer using Linux I'm holding out hope, even if the Linux licenses are more expensive due to the extra work the team have to do to get it running on Linux.

My dedicated emulator PC is running Debian Linux, I just love how much more stable and console-like it feels than windows, everything from boot to customizing GUI, etc. I like some aspects of it so much more than I’ve quit using Launchbox regrettably, as I find myself trying to avoid Windows for emulating classic games (and even new games, which work surprisingly well on Linux now through Steam).

I have a lifetime Launchbox license, but I would buy another one if it meant getting a native Linux version. There’s also like zero competition on that front, because in my opinion all the Linux front ends are TERRIBLE.

I'll join that club. I'd get another licence, my third if you include my Android licence, if they made a native Linux version.

The other front ends are awful and none of them merge multiple versions together. It's the worst. 😅

That makes sense, but unfortunately we already tried to cater to the desktop Linux crowd. It resulted in interest from only a handful of people, even after emailing the majority of our audience about it. I'm sure there are more than a handful of users who are interested, but at this point the desktop Linux audience has already been proven to be much too small to be able to focus on.

This app is better than every frontend on Linux combined. If I were a billionaire I would literally bank roll a native Linux port. I really don't want to have a Windows Partition at all anymore and this app is the only reason I do. It's just THAT good.

Though, if it's true that the Android build is coming to Linux I will buy my third license. Y'all deserve it. I love Launchbox.

Thanks! BTW This is my first time putting Linux as my main OS on a device. I'm interested because i heard programmers prefer Linux. What is your reason for using Linux?

I just love how much control Linux gives the user. And thanks to things like Gnome, KDE Plasma and Cinnamon, Linux now extremely user friendly.

Yeah, I reported the same issue and have yet to get help. However, The Android version is apparently being ported to Linux. So for now, we wait. ☺️

Also, FYI, in the slightly more distant future, this Android version should be able to be ported to native Linux, as well as eventually Windows for use on lower end devices. That's a ways off, but this is our current plan for lower end devices.

I'm so happy to hear that a Native Linux port is still on the cards. ??

As a BigBox License Holder who uses Linux I am truly elated.

    2. Linux users are often more aware of the license terms they are agreeing to, and what all goes into software development. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of Linux users who want access to BigBox will be willing to pay for it, out of respect to the dev team.

I paid for BigBox, so I can confirm that the Linux community is onboard with paying for this. :)

That's the issue though, Launchbox is closed source, and also only has two devs, which means time and resources are a issue, for what is a limited audience, who are also used to getting things for free. I'm sure if Launchbox was made for Linux the basic program would still be free, and you pay for Premium and BIgbox, as is currently the case, and you would want to be using Bigbox on a device like the Steamdeck

I am a Linux user, but I also have paid products. BigBox would still be a paid feature, no one would demand otherwise.

Its probably due to the fact that Launchbox is Windows only for the most part, so 99% of the users here will be Windows users that do not use Linux, if they even are aware of what it is. I have huge respect for Linux, but lets be honest its a very niche OS, and as Launchbox is a Windows application most people on this forum will be running Windows. I have no doubt we have Linux users here, but i bet they also have a Windows machine, and thats what they run Launchbox on, Launchbox has full compatibility there and most people want a frontend that just works, not one that needs constant babysitting like what is required to get this up and running on Linux, not to mention the added complexity of running on Linux, (heavy use of the terminal, installing repositories being just two concepts that are completely alien to most Windows users) most people just want to click install on Windows and go.

Linux is blowing up in the IT world nowadays. RHEL is killing Microsoft so much in the Enterprise space that Microsoft now have a Linux Distro.
SteamDeck will be Linux out of the Box and Proton has gone a long way to close the gap between Windows and Linux gaming.

I understand that you don't see the demand. But if you were to pop this up on GitHub the community would deliver this for you. :)

Run a game and hit F11 to send to Fullscreen. Then exit the game. Next time you launch it should remember that and go fullscreen. If not follow the steps below.

In >Tools>Manage Emulators edit Xenia. Then in the Running AutoHotKey tab paste the following code. The sleep portion is just to delay the code from entering F11 to fast.

    Sleep, 2500
     SetKeyDelay, -1, 110
     Send {F11}
     Return

    That AutoHotKey is amazing!

  11. I have a really frustrating issue where my Xbox Wireless Controllers. They are being picked up by MAME as multiple different controllers and buttons.

Every single input is picked up as multiple and random inputs.

Is anyone else having this issue? It's driving me crazy.

Just for future reference, quite often the cause for stuttering is the power management setting of your graphics card. For Nvidia the default setting is "Optimal Power". That puts your graphics card in its lowest power state faster and is sluggish to clock up. This can result in stuttering, lag or screen tearing. For gaming the "Adaptive Mode" is better. Adaptive Mode switches to a higher power state and thus higher clocks faster. Sometimes its even necessary to select "Prefer Maximum Performance" which forces the card in its highest power state. It is best to set the power management on a per game \ emulator basis, because for most of the time "Optimal Power" is fine. You don't want your graphics card on full throttle while browsing the web.

Thank you so much for this.
