So after some exploration... it seems like I can't open armory crate in the same way as you can't get to the desktop. The process is ruining (that's why the controller works, etc) and the button is trying to launch the application. I am guessing that it's also why the volume buttons are not working. They are hot keys to change the windows system volume. I'm that case I need to bind them to big box system volume... I think?

I have big box booting as shell on my ally x. The issue is that the volume buttons don't work in game and the armory crate button doesn't open armory crate... does anyone know what programs (and where the .exe are located) that I should add to startup in big box to fix this?

I had the same problem... you need to change the emulator settings in launchbox to match the core you are using in retroarch

I was digging around for a solution to this also and the problem for me was in Dolphin. I had to map Escape to exit in hotkeys and disable confirm on stop in Settings --> Interface --> uncheck Confirm on Stop.
