  1. How about some introductory JRPG lists? I know people that want to get into it but feel very intimidated by the scope and the menu management. I always recommend Chrono Trigger as a starter point, but there are others that can be broken down in different lists. Introduction to JRPGs; Starter Class: Chrono Trigger Super Mario RPG Breath of Fire 1/2 Evoland 1+2 PokΓ©mon Gold/Silver Introduction to JRPGs; Intermediate Class: Final Fantasy 6 Breath of Fire 3/4 Dragon Quest 11 Sea of Stars Final Fantasy 7/9 Introduction to JRPGs; Advanced Class: Final Fantasy 12 Parasite Eve Sweet Home Star Ocean The Second Story R Persona 2 Eternal Punishment/Innocent Sin - Survival Horror Essentials: Resident Evil HDRemake Dead Space Dino Crisis Alien Isolation Silent Hill Knuckle Sandwich!: Final Fight 3 TMNT Turtles in Time Streets of Rage 4 Battletoads and Double Dragon Aliens Vs. Predator (Capcom) I could go on and do more than 5 games and more categories, there are limitless possibilities here! But the post would be too long
  2. Some great covers already shared, so I'll give a few of my personal favorites. Being an artist, some of these definitely helped shape me. Some games have been making great artwork for their covers lately, but it is sadly not as prominent as it used to be, especially with the slow death of physical media
  3. For now my sorting is only based on standard platform, including region specific like Super Nintendo and Super Famicom having their own separated entries Looking forward to grab a license and then really go ham with sorting things out for BigBox , although I don't think it will change much, as I like to scroll through whole libraries while seeing box art and getting into something new at random
  4. Artwork, manuals, regional box arts, a player for the music, an arranged soundtrack, superbosses, added dungeons. There are many possibilities, but I'll go with the general consensus of digital museum, those are always a treat!
  5. A good remaster is one that upgrades the existent media to modern platforms without remaking its contents entirely. So; -Enhancements in texture and lighting -Improvement on controls and options around controls customization -Widescreen support if applicable -Higher Resolution output -Improvement in sound and music (Sometimes just an uncompressed version of the original audio is enough) -Improvements and possible additions of cut or planned content that was left in the cutting board floor, now finished and reintroduced -QoL improvements like Quicksaves, Rewind, Fastforward (Useful for older JRPGs) -Balancing and bug fixes Good examples of remasters imo, some definitely border on the Remake territory. but their fidelity to the original is close enough to list ; -Metroid Prime Remastered - Honestly, stellar accomplishment, especially for the hardware -Resident Evil HD Remaster - It is a remake, but one that stays very faithful to the original, with improvements and additions -Dead Space Remake - It is a full remake, but unlike RE2,3 and 4 that are full remakes with some reimagining, the fidelity of Dead Space to the original is pretty good, and thus worth mentioning -Final Fantasy XII - The Zodiac Age - A fantastic update to the original PS2 release, with many improvements -Black Mesa - Again, it is a full blown remake, but it is to me the definitive way to play Half-Life now -Star Ocean The Second Story R - This one is a bit on the middle of the road, it is a remake, but also a remaster, and an all in improvement package. Fantastic way to enjoy the game -Final Fantasy Tactics - The War of the Lions - More of an improved version than a remaster, but a fantastic one nonetheless -Grim Fandango Remastered - To the point! As is the other Double Fine Remasters of LucasArts games As a bonus the upcoming The Thing Remastered - What Nightdive has shown is delicious, can't wait for it!
  6. This is hard, leaving something out is hard. Doing a top 10 is already super difficult, so reducing to 5 feels like a betrayal lol -Chrono Trigger -Final Fantasy Tactics -Monster Hunter World -Super Metroid -Parasite Eve MegamanX/X4ResidentEvil1/2DaysGoneDarkSouls2FinalFantasyVI/VII/XIIBreathofFire2/3/4KillerInstinct2013Demon'sCrestFrontMissionYoshi'sIslandVagrantStoryCastlevaniaSotNCotMOoESilentHill4
  7. Tomba 1 got a re-release earlier this month, not sure if there are plans for 2, but it would have been nice if they had already packed both together Man, idk, I don't think the Pixel Remasters are an improvement over the originals personally. I'm thankful for finally having V available on PC, but FF6 lost so much of its drab appeal to me with the remaster art. Plus it has none of the bonus content added with other releases, which is a shame I am more excited about the treatment they are going to give to DQ 1, 2 and 3. And wish they had done that with FF 1-6
  8. Breath of Fire Collection. Capcom has ignored the series for long enough. I don't expect a new game in the series as Capcom development moved very far from jrpgs, but a collection is very overdue. Would also love if that GOG Classic Resident Evil Bundle got ported to other places Parasite Eve 1+2 Same as above, Squenix has given false hopes regarding the franchise for a while with small collabs and trademarks, a collection/remaster for modern platforms (and PC) would be very welcomed. Edit: Almost forgot. Has been waiting for a Castlevania DS Collection since the Advance Collection hit stores. But that one seems more unlikely as Konami would have to put actual work into it to account for the dual screen and touch mechanics. Not big on Dragon Quarter myself, but it should be part of the collection, same with 3rd Birthday
