  1. I found the solution! If anyone is curious how, it seems you need to calibrate the light gun in the diagnostics menu of CarnEvil. Here's an exceptionally informative site to show you how: http://greelyvalley.weebly.com/diagnostics-menu.html Also, the game runs terrible on recent versions of MAME. So I read somewhere to use the 0.237b version of MAME and it works silky smooth now. I really hope that can clear things up or people experiencing the same thing as I did. Enjoy the macabre Carnival!
  2. I can move the crosshair and fire the gun (I hear it going off and the ammo counter goes down) but nothing actually happens. I tried CarnEvil in several different versions of MAME but no such luck. Anybody have experience with CarnEvil? Killer Instinct 1 and 2 both set up quite easily.
  3. Ok thanks for the advice 👍
  4. I managed to get it up and running with Mednaffe (I'm not skilled enough to run from the command line) and in LaunchBox\BigBox but i was seriously overwhelmed by the size and technical terminology in the Mednafen documentation. I remember the documentation mentioned something (I think) about how you shouldn't use M3U playlists for multiple discs. What do you think about that? I noticed after starting a game and hitting F1 for a help prompt you could hit keys to switch discs and open the disc tray and things like that. So why do you recommend Mednafen? It does seem really good and hopefully it will fix my locking-up issue.
  5. OK, could you please tell me how I can set it up so that it works with LaunchBox/BigBox?
  6. Ok I’ll check it out, thanks. Is it possible to run the standalone Mednafen in BigBox like how you can run Duckstation in BigBox?
  7. Do you mean Mednafen_psx_libretro and Mednafen_saturn_libretro found in Manage Emulators =>RetroArch->Associated Platforms? I'm already using those. I could try Duckstation for awhile and see if any problems crop up. I found the Kronos emulator for the Sega Saturn but know nothing about it.
  8. Let me elaborate: When it freezes, the controls don't do anything. The only thing that works is escape to quit the game. No windows message pops up saying the program has stopped responding. It seems to only happen with Sega Saturn and Playstation. I am using a Geforce GTX 670 graphics card. I realize the card is very old so maybe that has something to do with it. Perhaps I should just use DuckStation. I don't know what options there are are for Sega Saturn emulators.
  9. Alright! Perfect!👍 it works perfectly now. THANK YOU!😊 You are a true pro.
  10. Locking up only seems to happen with RetroArch. Thankfully, this only happens fairly rarely, but it’s still kind of annoying. Are there any tweaks that can be used to address this problem? MAME works great, never had it lock up.
  11. OK, so I went to the emulation section on one of the games and chose MAME rather than MAME 0.261. When I went to launch the game, it said “The file you specified for the emulator application path was not found”. So in the emulation section, I hit edit. I noticed that the “application path” was different than the actual application path which is “F:\MAME\mame.exe”. I just noticed this. So I changed it to the actual MAME path but when I launch the game, it doesn’t actually launch it. It just shows the regular MAME screen, as if I had opened MAME manually. It’s a step in the right direction I suppose. Thank you for your help.
  12. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately the scanlines still aren't appearing. I tried it in LaunchBox too with the same results. Maybe this has something to do with it: There are multiple MAME emulators. I don't really know why and I hesitate to delete any because I don't want anything to go wrong. That being said, I tried removing -nofilter from the Default Command-Line Parameters in each of the three emulators and the problem is still there. The MAME emulator that is on the F: drive is where I originally extracted the 0.261 version of MAME. Maybe there is some kind of conflict happening. It's worth noting that the MAME on the F: drive is the MAME I am using that is displaying the correct HLSL shader with the scanlines and everything.
  13. I'm using this HLSL shader: And when launching MAME games from BIgBox everything works fine except that there are no scanlines. I guess it's good that everything works fine when using MAME manually but I would prefer if it all worked in BigBox. Hopefully somebody can guide me in the right direction with this, thanks.
  14. I put the raster.ini in the \Mame\ini\presets folder. There was also another file in the download called vector.ini. I just put them both in the \Mame\ini\presets folder. I backed up the old ones. The HLSL effect doesn't show up when running in BigBox, it only works when I manually run MAME and select the game that I want. It's a really cool effect, I hope there's a way to get it working in BigBox. Btw, are there any other resources that have custom HLSL MAME shaders? I’d like to try some out and see what I prefer.
  15. I tried using Project64 and it apparently doesn't have the flickering issue but my controllers aren't working for it. Are there any graphical tweaks in RetroArch I could use that might help the problem? I noticed that the video clip for this game from EmuMovies doesn't display this problem happening.
  16. Ok everything seems to be in order but I'm still having having the problem with the Lynx emulator in RetroArch not saving the shader, even after I used a core override. Using the core override is saving other things though, like when I disable the bezels it saves that. I guess it's not that big a deal but it would be nice because I found a shader for the Lynx that is apparently very similar to the actual Lynx's display.
  17. Ok. What do you mean by LaunchBox updater? I’ve looked for the various menus in LaunchBox and can’t find anything like that.
  18. Thanks! So how do you go about updating RetroArch manually? I don’t know where you find it since I only use RetroArch through LaunchBox.
  19. Ok thanks man! It’ll be great to have everything in good working order. I’ll try out your advice.
  20. Ok thank you. I actually overlooked the "override" menu within the quick menu. When I went there I understood what needed to be done thanks to neil9000's post - I just set up the Game Boy emulator the way I wanted it and saved with "content directory override" and all the Game Boy games were set up the way I wanted. It turns out that all my other systems had the Game Boy filter applied to them as well. So I just set up each system and saved with a content directory override and most everything is fine now. Thanks! Now there are only two issues left that I just found. Setting up my Playstation emulator in RetroArch allowed me to save with a content directory override and the options were saved correctly with the game I was using. But the other Playstation games were not saved that way. I have a theory as to why. All my Playstation games are saved in folders that are named the name of the game like this: So should I put all my .bin and .cue files into the same folder (the one called Playstation) and not have every game saved in its own folder? I thought that might lead to problems which is why I didn't put all the .bin and .cue files into the same folder. The second problem is with the Atari Lynx. I load a shader and saved with a content directory override but the shader isn't used the next time I start up the game or any other Lynx games. Alright, I'm glad we could figure this out and hopefully have everything in order soon. Thank you.
  21. I’m thinking about posting this in the troubleshooting forum but am kind of afraid to do so after reading the “important: read before posting here” thread. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be providing enough information. I really enjoy LaunchBox and I just want it to work right.
