  1. I ended up converting a ton of my old FLV files because they just randomly wouldn’t play in some apps, even with extra codecs. MP4 has worked way smoother for me, especially with new front ends and even older players, so I think you’re on the right track converting before you run into more problems. Figuring out a way to batch process saves tons of time if you’ve got loads of files. Sometimes after I convert or mess with formats, I also have to join mkv files together for longer video sessions, and there are tools out there that make that pretty painless.
  2. I ran into something similar with my Steam Deck when using Moonlight for some emulated games. What helped me was going into the Steam Input settings and tweaking the controller configuration for those specific games. Sometimes just remapping the buttons can fix the issue. Also, I found that launching games directly from Steam instead of through Hyperspin worked better for me.
  3. Hey! That sounds like a cool project! Instead of using rc.local, you might want to try creating a systemd service. It gives you more control over running applications as specific users. Just set up a service for DOSBox that specifies it should run as the admin user after the boot. Make sure your DOSBox config is set to point to the right directories for your files. That should help it start up correctly!
  4. I totally hear you on that! I’ve had my share of issues with exports, especially when they dump everything in without asking. When I set up my RetroPie, I found it frustrating to sift through all those unnecessary MAME files. It’d be a game changer if they had a simple export option where we could just select what we want. Manually fixing missing files isn’t fun either; it really eats up time.
  5. I haven’t seen any news about a Linux version of LaunchBox, which is a bummer because I’d love to use it on my Linux setup. In the meantime, I’ve tried SteamROM Manager, and it’s a decent alternative. It doesn’t have all the features of LaunchBox, but it gets the job done for organizing my games.
