  1. UPDATE:

Good news, transferring my games to android with the export fucntion at least shows the games in launchbox for adnroid, but i still cannot find a way to properly set them up to play them. Retroarch doesn't recognise the files since they've been zipped, and though you an use retroarch itself to look inside zipped files, i cannot find a way to save the specific pathnames inside a zipped game for the same specific game in launchbox. anyone able to help with this? Mostly also since this way is way easier to setup DOS games through android, not to mention much quicker, but it has to work and it still doesnt.

  2. Thx @faeran, that makes everything a bit clearer. Foor now it's gonna be emblem.

concerning the 'adding games' problem, for now i'm gonna try and use my pc's launchbox to export these DOS games, see what happens.

  3. I was still curious if people had issues. I have an odin pro now, and apart from me loving the thing, i have experienced some major inconveniences with launchbox. Mainly the fact that launchbox randomly AND specifically throws me out of the app, to (when restarting) show me none of the changes i've made had any effect. This is particularly nasty when trying to add games. I already can't add all my MS-DOS games at the same time, but doing them one by one and repeatedly getting kicked out to find out my game hasnt been added is kind of a dealbreaker. for now i'm pretty sure there are answers i'm not finding yet, nonetheless it's a pain....

that's it for now. I hope you can help me. oh and please tell me where the search option resides on the forum.

-this one has been solved. seemed my lighting in the room and my computer screen didn't allow me to see where the actual search column was. found it now :)

  5. for some reason i cannot find the search function on this forum, so with the risk of repeating some questions (which i don't like):

I am an odin pro user (just android) and have my roms and whatnot on a separate sd card. I've been able to add one DOS game (since the machine crashed once i tried to add the whole DOS folder in launchbox for android). now, when i try to add another dos game, all seems to go well, but as soon as i save, the program crashes, throwing me out. The window of launchbox stays open in my active programs, but once i click it, it just restarts launchbox, showing me no sign of my newly added game. added for that is my logfile, if that's any help. i'd like to hear how i can fix this.

-how do i upgrade to the beta version? i've activated it in the options, but don't feel like it has updated anything since then. is there a way to check whether or not this works?

-Do themes work on android? for now i cannot get another theme to work. i can install them, but especially in the first window i cannot seem to use them. in the games window i have the option to change the grid look, but elsewhere i do not get that option.

that's it for now. I hope you can help me. oh and please tell me where the search option resides on the forum.

Are you guys seeing it freezing the app, or does it just never show results?

Also, like Jason mentioned, if it's freezing, can either of you provide a log file for the time you got the app to freeze. It's found in the LaunchBox\Logs folder.

sorry, didn't see that one. i'll try to send the logfile here ASAP.

  7. i am willing to help, odin pro user here. just got mine and since i already had a lifetime lisence for my computer, figured i'd try this one as well. it is giving me quite a lot of trouble to be honest, but let's start with this specific one.

-i have clicked 'use debug logs' but how do i get them? btw, odin doesn't freeze. in my case it throws me out of launchbox for android but doesn't seem to shutdown the program, since i can still see it running in my program windows. but when i click the window, it DOES seem to restart launchbox.

so, step 1, HOW do i get a log file?

  8. after some searching i've found some sources pointing to a way to make scummvm game appear in certain frontends by using a textfile renamed to the game with the extension .scummvm or .svm. however, i haven't found enough to actually work out how to use it, neither do i know whether or not this works with launchbox for android as well. anyone here to verify this? have alink to a tutorial on how to do this? or just knows the answer to the question above?

  9. Hi there,

I've recently bought a retroid pocket 2+, and since then became interested in running my favorite software on android! now transferring games to my android device seems only to count for the ROM's i have, and no other platforms (DOS/ScummVM). I've tried transferring some scummvm games the way described, but it will only copy the .bat files that my desktop version of launchbox uses, and that's obviously not enough. Since this platform (and DOS too) is so important to me, i'd reallyreallyreally like to get this to work on launchbox for android. i don't care if transferring directly won't work, neither will i have a problem with reinstalling my games on scummVM (or the retroarch core for that matter) on android and transferring the gamefiles manually, but how do i get launchbox to find these games on android?

any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried searching for scummvm in the topics on the android platform but came up empty enough to make this topic.

  10. Thank you so much! I was already scratching the back of my head because of the shortname 'access'. didn't try out 'amazon' though, which (now) sounds much more likely to be the shortname! and to be honest, i thought i had to rename the target path IN the shortcut, not as a launcher option in Launchbox itself, so i can see where i went wrong with this.

haven't tried this out yet, but i'll be sure to give it a run when i have time tomorrow. this will probably save me some time on future errors as well, so thankx again!

You should probably uncheck "use an emulator" box. Instructions for importing scummvm games are here:

I don't know about you, but i'm not allowed to have the tab 'emulation' checked if i want to use the ScummVM tab. So there's no way i have them both checked. I also checked your way to insert games and that's exactly how i do it, i just start out differently. I check scummVM in the scummVM tab, find the path the game is in, select it, select the game from the dropdown list of scumm games, and THEN scrape the name. once i click the name in the database, it automatically reverts to the emulation tab and checks the box there, so i undo that, check the scummvm box in the appropriate tab and the path and game are (luckily) still filled in.

the ONLY thing i can think of is that amazon: guardians of eden is stated to be 'not tested' on the scumm website. but then it would still be weird that running it from the emulator directly starts the game no problem, but when i add it the way you do, it says 'no game data found'. the path is definitely the correct one, i checked in both scummVM and launchbox that i selected the same exact folder for the datafiles to be found.,,,

so thx for the help, but it doesn't solve my problem yet.

I've not tried Blade Runner in ScummVM as I just run it natively, but the process should be the same as I mentioned in the other post earlier. Make a shortcut to ScummVM, edit the target path with the relevant switches and folder path and the game's shortname, then import that like you would any Windows shortcut (drag it into the LB UI and select the third option - "none of the above" - in the Wizard).

It's actually been awhile since i've started updating my launchbox again, but i remembered this quote. I have kind of the same problem with the game 'amazon: guardians of Eden'. When i start it in ScummVM (2.0.0) it will start normally. But whenever i try to import the game through launchbox like any other scummVM game before, i get an error stating that 'game data not found'. It will then redirect me to scummVM and once starting it there, it will simply work. Is there any fix for this? There's some other weird stuff happening to me while importing scummvm games as well, but i never thought much of it since the games imported would work.

any time i import a game for scummVM i use the method like in screen 1. That's all good and dandy but when the path and gamefield are filled out, i go to search for the game in the database. when i click the game i'm trying to install, for some reason it will uncheck all the scumm boxes i ticked earlier and will have changed the tab and checked emulation like in screen 2. I've tried selecting scummvm there once to see if it worked, but it didn't. so i uncheck emulation and check all the boxes to scummvm again. once i'm finished and press ok i ALWAYS get the message in screen 3. I press no since the scummvm tab is working fine and all the games i import work, with the exception (second time now) for BladeRunner and apparently, now, Amazon: Guardians of Eden.

I've tried your shortcut solution but it doesn't work either. paths and everything are entered correctly as far as i can tell but i get the same error. once i open up scummVM and run the game from there, there's no trouble at all. Any Thoughts?

@flexzi You might be able to use ScummVM's autosave feature to get you past the initial prompt, then create a game specific override that from that point on saves to a different save slot.

hmmm this might just be a little harder than i thought. quest for glory actually uses the manual a few times through the game, at least that's what the introduction (including very angry disclaimer against copyright infringement) tells me, so that would at least be a 'no' on the savestate since you'd have to do it a couple (dunno how many) times and keep the manual close. I guess i'll just play the game with the manual if needed.

  14. Hi there,

i have a small problem with kings quest 4, the perils of rosella.

the game starts up just fine, but since i want a bigbox experience with as few delays and meaningless notifications as possible, one thing came up. When the game is started it asks for a certain word out of the manual for the game. if you don't type this word, the game will shut down and bring you back to launch/big box. is there a way to circumvent this? i could easily look at the manual, find the word and type it in, but that kind of defeats the ideal of playing directly without any delays. i don't want to grab a manual or open it next to my running game to look up a word to type in EVERY time i play the game!

    any solutions to this?

  15. Just to update the topic to anyone having this problem (is this how using a forum works? I'm not that savy with online things)

Turns out the HDFRAMES.DAT file required to run some aspects of bladerunner in better quality resolutions is not that happy about me not loading a disc. Though it's not the ideal solution to the problem, simply keeping the 1st disc loaded in DAEMON TOOLS LITE fixed the problem. It was supposed to load without any CD's though, but at least the game is working in both windows AND launchbox. someday i'll try and fix it, i guess...

  16. Hi There!

I figured this would be the place to post this, so here it goes:

I have the 20thanniversary version of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. Since i'm having trouble getting the right datafiles for ScummVM for this one (if it is even playable on ScummVM..) I'm just running it as a windows game. The only downside (since i want to play in bigbox and want to be interrupted by screens or options as little as possible when i start a game) is that this 20th anniversary version starts up with a resolution box which makes you choose a resolution along with some other options that are not important to me. You can press play on the bottom left immediately, starting up the game.

Is there a way to skip this resolution/option box completely? AKA is there a command-line parameter i can add to windows games (either in the path or command-line parameter line of the options in launchbox's editing screen for the game) that will skip this box? it would be really helpfull!

    thx in advance.

  17. I'm having a problem with blade runner.

Now, obviously blade runner is a tricky game to run on some computers,  but this takes the cake. I've been able to determine that blade runner will either work with a german launch and installation executable available from some site (tried it and worked) or you can run (don't know how stable though) it through the newest ScummVM interpreter (mine currently is 2.1.0 git or something like that)

The problem occurs when i try to use both of those solutions in launchbox.

-First of all, i'm able to run the game in scummvm, pointing at the folder and telling it to add a game, blade runner is recognized and when i click the link in scummvm itself, the game will start up (at least, haven't tested the rest of the game in ScummVM yet). If i do the same, but using the 'game - add' function in launchbox, it won't work. data files not found.....

-Another error occurs when i try to just run the game from the launcher (after installing it with the german installwizard which also adds some fixes, an update and other things...) it works, but i want it working in launchbox. Tested this theory quite often:

-when i install the game i can run it by clicking blade.exe. no problems. restarting the computer and trying it again works as well, but once i try launching it through launchbox i get a 'blade.exe crashed' notification by windows. strangely enough, when i try the normal executable again after restarting the computer, the game won't start anymore, not in launchbox, nor normally through the executable. at least not untill i reinstall blade runner using the german installwizard.

this is the link to the installer:

    https://www.replaying.de/files/blade-runner-patch-windows-vista-7-8-x64/

also, my exact version of ScummVM: 2.1.0git4-g2ca0235

    Any thoughts?
