  1. I thought this was a possibility after reading the suggestion but Retroarch didnt appear to pop up with its volume control in windows sound control panel like some apps (ie launchbox) do. Using a multimedia keyboard I turned sound up and down in retroarch but no sound could be heard when RA was launched from LB. UPDATE: Resolved by changing video driver from dx11 to Vulcan. That brought back digital audio. Using wasapi audio driver and turned on exclusive mode on that driver to improve audio quality. Hope this helps someone in the future. Update 2: Something’s broken. It turns out everytime I start a retroarch game I need to go in and change the audio driver now (to anything) to get the sound back. Looks like reinstall time at least of retroarch.
  2. I thought that was worth investigating and have done so. Interestingly, if you Launch Retroarch on its own, it gets its own volume control in Windows Volume Mixer (right click speaker on task bar and go to Volume Mixer. When running from Launchbox, LB gets its own volume control but Retroarch doesn't appear to. Not sure if this is relevant or not. Interestingly I can force the TV to use audio via composite (analogue) with video via HDMI. What happens now though is I have to manually change the tv audio output between digital (sound in everything but Retroarch when loaded from LB), or analogue (no sound in anything but retroarch).
  3. Thanks thraxlol. I will go the full reconstruction route as a last resort, but of course had everything running nicely until recently, so don't really feel like starting over I've been through control panel >> sound options. Nothing amiss there. I have also been through Retroarch audio and driver settings about 20X both when launched from LB/BB and independently and everything appears identical. Totally at a loss! Non-Retroarch emulation works fine with sound and all, as does Windows/LB/BB audio.
  4. Hi all I have a basic setup. Windows mini PC connected via HDMI to an old Plasma TV for retrogaming, running Bigbox. As of about a week ago, when launching retroarch games from LB/BB there is no sound. Running the same Retroarch instance from Windows Explorer/Cmd Prompt presents no such issue. Also in LB, if I right click a game and do open Retroarch or launch retroarch (forget the exact terminology). It all works, but if I right click the game and do "play" there is no sound. This happens across ALL Retroarch cores, so not a core specific issue. The only Retroarch switch Launchbox is using is -f (full screen). It seems like LB/BB are parsing some sort of independent config to Retroarch that is messing up the sound, but not aware of that being a thing. Similar stories. The last one could be the complicated audio setup described but the first 2 are more in line with my issue. Any ideas?
  5. Thanks Neil. Am I right in assuming then that getting the appropriate level of responsiveness from readily available digital sticks and using MAME is just never going to be good enough for playing games like Mortal Kombat 1-3 with moderately complex combo moves?
  6. Thanks Headrush. Wish I'd know that before investing in the latest round of sticks, but thank you for the advice. I'll have to do some further research now. When I was reading last time the common thoughts where the Sanwa JLF IIRC was the go to stick for fighters, but it seems that's not the case. I'll investigate the Ultimarc 360 and others.
  7. Hi all The following is not really a LB/BB issue, but hoping anyone in the community who may have some answers might provide me with some guidance. I have a Windows PC running Bigbox 13.1 (latest) for my arcade machine. BB aside, I find in Mame (Any version) my joysticks aren't sensitive enough for the Mortal Kombat series (very hard to do basic combos). I did upgrade the PC and the joysticks from Sanwa JLF knock offs to the real deal. The machine uses an Ultimarc IPAC2 encoder. I watched the below short video on youtube but it didn't help me as there were no sensitivity options to adjust in Mame, per this video. I suspect the reason why I cant adjust the joystick sensitivity in mame is because Mame sees my joysticks as keyboard inputs. For example Up on the player 1 joystick equals UP arrow on the keyboard. Is there some other config needed to be able to treat the joystick as a joystick in mame and adjust sensitivity?
  8. Thanks C-Beats. I found that option. Unfortunately, it changes the look. Screenshot 1 is what I get when I change the view to "All Games", but I prefer the look I get when It's on Platforms. Is there anyway to set "All Games" and still get the look in Screenshot 2 that you know of?
  9. Found the solution which I am posting in case it helps somebody else. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can explain it. I went 1. Launchbox > Tools > Manage > Emulators > Deleted the Mame emulator from the list. 2. Under the same Manage Emulators section, I clicked Add button (bottom left), selected Mame as the emulator. It found the right version from the Launchbox\Emulators\Mame251 folder I had there. Although I did have to manually populate the path box. Once I did that, games started loading. If anyone knows how to get Bigbox to go straight into the Arcade Games section, rather than showing the systems wheel with 20 "Arcade" options which all obviously go to the same place, I would appreciate some advice on how to set that up. Wasn't really worth a new thread.
  10. Hi all I can't get mame roms to load from Launchbox 13.1 or BigBox. I have imported them using the wizard and told mame to use mame 0.251 installed in my main launchbox\emulators folder. I'll get straight into what I have tried and verified to this point: 1. I am using a limited number of non-merged mame 0.251 roms. 2. I have run mame -verifyroms romname on each and all came back as good. 3. I am able to load each game through Mame 251 (either command line or mame interface) without problems. 4. When i right click on any game in launchbox and click Play the blank cmd prompt screen flashes up for a second and goes away. 5. When in Launchbox if i manually click launch with > retroarch > mamelibreto the game loads. The reason I don't want to use retroarch is this is an arcade cabinet and it quits back to mame GUI when I exit a game rather than back to launchbox/bigbox, and other reading suggests there is no way around this. 6. It didn't matter when the wizard asked whether to use files from where they are or move/copy them what option I selected, the problem persisted. Attached are some hopefully helpful screenshots. Note image 2 shows ffight.zip when i clicked on properties of double dragon 2 and any other game. Final Fight is one of the games in my collection. 7. I have manually validated multiple times that path's are correct. Any ideas at this point would be greatly appreciated, as I am all out of clues. Thanks dm
  11. Hi all I am using a Dualshock 3 controller with SCPtoolkit successfully with LB/BB. In BB when i press button 1 on the dualshock (X button), it pops open a Windows Explorer window and takes me to the current rom I was trying to load. Any idea how to stop Windows Explorer popping up? Note i've changed the Windows shell from explorer.exe to bigbox.exe, which otherwise works as expected. Update: Looks like there's some issue after importing MAME roms where LB/BB isn't associating mame roms with an emulator (ie Retroarch). I'll have to work that out... Cheers DM
  12. Thanks neil9000. I overlooked that initially as I just left on the default options. Problem solved. I hope this helps somebody else.
  13. Hi all I am a paid up Launchbox lifer and think its great. One issue I can't resolve however and have seen heaps of similar threads but none of them have helped me resolve the problem is I am trying to launch MAME games from Launchbox/BigBox using the Retroarch 2003 libretro core and roms from the 0.78/MAME 2003 romset. It says loading rom/game then nothing happens in BigBox. Nothing at all happens when trying to load mame roms from Launchbox. Using the same install of Retroarch as LB/BB are using directly, i can load the same games from the same location no problem. I tried deleting and re-importing the platform from scratch in LB but that has made no difference. D:\LaunchBox\Games\Arcade - Here is my path to the games. Any advice greatly appreciated. As above, I can confirm mame version/core corresponds with rom versions (2003/0.78). Screenshots as follows:
  14. Hi all New to the forums, but been a paid up Launchbox Premium user for quite a few months. What can I say, after trying virtually every commonly known emulator frontend known to man, I stumbled across Launchbox, and the way its setup, configured, how it looks, ease of use etc leave everything else pale by comparison. I do have a 5 year old home built arcade machine with Hyperspin on it, and that works well, but the reason I abandoned that on my little mutl-emulator PC for the lounge room, is because their native support for USB controllers sux and required too much stuffing around to get right. Also all other features require lots of manual intervention to get working. In comes Launchbox which just looks and works awesome! Now to my question. I have a basic Intel NUC (Celeron edition 1.6-2.2GHZ (speeds up under load apparently). The NUC has 8GB ram and an SSD in it. I find the 150MB launchbox exe, which bigbox obviously calls, very slow to load up. This means the desktop on my PC is sitting there idle for up to about 60 seconds at boot before the application loads. Anything other than a better PC that can fix this? I remember reading in one of the updates that the game/emulator database file has now been split up into individual systems or something, rather than one massive database, to improve performance. I have V6.12 installed now, following various updates. How would I look to split up the existing database in order to hopefully improve performance? Do I have to start over from scratch? Any suggestions for speeding up the loading performance on BigBox/Launchbox would be appreciated. Once its running, it runs smoothly with all my various USB controllers configured. I have all the transitions turned off, but background game/system videos enabled, so it still provides a good experience. Thanks Darkmenace
