Im also on the same build as @DOS76 17746rs5 and i havent seen any issues either. I just went to tools/import and added a folder and it worked just fine for me. So it sounds like you have another issue with your system.
This is weird because the friend I mentioned had the same problem as me, and he is on a different insider build than me.

Strange I'm on Insider Build 17746 fast ring and have not encountered any errors while adding games. I've been getting builds pretty frequently and haven't had this issue on any of them.
Did you try Add Files? Under Tools>Import>Rom Files
It will not crash when adding a Folder.

Every time I try to add a single rom file to launchbox I get this specific crash. I have installed windows for the second time now, and this time it was on a brand new SSD. I also made a new install of Launchbox just in case. So for the last month no one has found an answer to my problem. So I am making a new thread with updated information. The dev team made it clear that this is not a launchbox bug, so he told me to go here.
Update: Me, and a friend of mine discovered why this is happening. Windows must have changed how Visual Styles work. We are both Windows Insiders. Windows Build 17713.rs5_release.18076-1551
Visual Styles-related operation resulted in an error because visual styles are currently disabled in the client area.

I reinstalled windows today, and the problem of launchbox crashing when I try to add a rom file persist.
-
I tried those settings then restarted, and it still crashed launchbox with the same error.
Also I only noticed this happening after I cloned my original C windows drive to a bigger drive, and then switched to the new one. Though if cloning works as it should. Nothing should have changed.

It would be somewhat helpful if someone could direct me on what to do, or tell me where I could get directions to solve this issue. Thankyou!

Windows 10 is preventing Launchbox from using Visual Styles. I have tried downgrading Launchbox to previous versions with the same result. Launchbox Version 8.4 . Jason Carr made it clear this is not something that launchbox has done, but is a problem with Windows Install. He said to come here for help to fix the issue.

Everything was working fine when I updated until trying to boot BigBox. It crashed, and then when I tried relaunching every time it would have this crash log. I tried restarting, and updating windows. That did nothing, and I tried googling the issue. I got no results. I don't know where to submit crashes of this type. I never had any issues with Launchbox betas before. Is this a problem I can correct, or is this a developer issue? If it is not in my hands, how do I revert to a previous build since I can't do it in the program right now?

Update
I can't get this to work. It installs, but when I click the shortcut on the desktop. It just wants to reinstall again.
Edit: Never mind. It was my anti-malware program blocking installation. Once I disabled it for the time being, and white listed it. It started working as normal.
