esnmb
I'm sure this has been posted somewhere, but I couldn't find anything. All of my ROMs and emulators are on my NAS, so I was wondering if it's possible to relocate the Launchbox directory to the NAS as well so my other PC's can access it? ROMS and emulators would not be moved. Thanks!
SentaiBrad
Yes you can. LaunchBox is fully portable, so long as the drive the games are located on doesn't change you are good to go. Chances are, it would be best to put LaunchBox on each individual PC to access the NAS, but what you are saying may work too. As long as the LaunchBox XML is still pointing towards the correct location for each PC. Even if the location the roms are in is changing you can use Notepad++ to Find and Replace All when it comes to the path. I replaced I:\wbfs yesterday with J:\wbfs in the LaunchBox XML because my Wii and Gamecube external changed drive letters and I couldn't change the drive letter back to the right letter in Windows Disk Management. esnmb
If I installed it on multiple PC's, can I just copy over the xml file to get my library and all settings to be the same? The goal of course is to just have the same everything on my PC's (desktop/HTPC)...
SentaiBrad
Yes, it's portable. You can copy your XML to any LaunchBox install and it will work. If you bring over your Images, Video, Manual and Music folders those will carry over as well. The LaunchBox XML holds all settings, game information and media attachments. esnmb
Thoughts on keeping my multiple installs in sync? :)
SentaiBrad
You could put it on a large USB 3.0 Thumb Drive (a 64GB or 128GB) or a USB 3 external Hard Drive. You can even stream one PC to another if you'd prefer.
esnmb
I think I'll try to launch from the NAS. I have my house wired with 1gb ethernet so I should be good for running the app over the network.. I would hope at least!
SentaiBrad
Well App + Games. You might be good, just keep an eye out for performance. It might be a 1GBPS connection but the amount of machines, your internet and what you're doing on the network all play a factor in to it. You have several options though. esnmb
Very true. I'm the only one in the house that would be playing anything at this point, so it should be ok. I'm going to test it out. Playing a PS2 game should be a good test. Also, you created the Kodi integration script, right?
SentaiBrad
No I didn't. I don't know who did. Also for your Network, 1GBPS is a bit misleading and it's why I dislike the "bps" measuring.. 1GBPS ≈ 1000MBPS which ≈ 125MB/s.
esnmb
Ah right, sorry. I've seen your name around a lot and thought it was you. Yup, the old bits vs. bytes.. I know what you meant though. ;-)
SentaiBrad
Nah, no need to apologize. My name is all over the place so I can see why you had thought that.
