GreenTea
Hi, I'm using Bigbox and for the most part everything is great. Totally worth the money over my old Emulationstation setup. I am on a beta (7.5-beta-4) but I don't think being on a stable build would make any difference here since it's not really a bug I think that I'm running into, just possibly a feature that doesn't exist/I'm having trouble finding. I'm also on Windows 10, if that matters (might handle audio devices differently than other versions of Windows?) I have everything setup so Bigbox is on my second display (My TV through HDMI out). I use Retroarch for the most part as my emulator with a few other ones to cover the gaps for things with no good libretro core, that's no issue. And I have Retroarch setup to properly display on my TV and also to use HDMI out as the audio device. And I'm glad Bigbox has an option to always display on my second monitor, that works perfectly. Problem is, I couldn't find a setting to change the audio device Bigbox uses. So, if I have sounds on they play out of my PC's speakers and not my TV. That is not ideal. I know I could just change the audio device in Windows but that would also not be ideal because I do still want everything non-emulation to use my PC's speakers and also that would confuse Retroarch since it would change the audio device numbers and the device Retroarch sends all the sound too would no longer be my TV. Again, easily "fixable" but the end result is not ideal. Is there a way to change the audio device Bigbox is using? Maybe some hidden config file I could change a setting on, or just something I'm overlooking in the options? I know there are probably 3rd party software solutions to this but I would rather avoid that if I can. It's not a huge deal, right now I just have Bigbox set to not use any sounds. But it would be nice to get a few clicks and beeps working with it. Thanks a lot
SentaiBrad
Set your default Windows device to the one you want to use all the time. Right click on the Sound icon in your Windows taskbar and go to Playback devices. I've personally disabled devices I will never use in here, but also, right click your primary sound device and set it to default for everything. It may take a min to switch over, or a Big Box restart, but try that and it should work.
GreenTea
That does work, but the problem then is that everything is set to output to my TV. I only want to use the TV as an audio device for BigBox and my emulators. I've got the emulators to output to it, but not BigBox. The thing is that I'd like to keep everything else on my computer using the normal speakers. Like, for example if I get a call in skype, or if I put on some music, or whatever I'd like that to still use my PC speakers. But only have Bigbox and my emulators using the TV as an output. If I change the default Windows device to my TV that makes everything output to my TV, and I'd like to avoid that if possible.
SentaiBrad
Ah, then yea that functionality would need to be added, but it is probably a good idea regardless. My suggestion was more of a workaround. Feel free to see if someone has requested the feature at our BitBucket, and if not feel free to add it yourself. Vote on the ticket either way. You can get there by clicking Issues / Requests. Feel free to also post the ticket link here so others see it.
GreenTea
Ok, I hope I did it right. Is this in the right place? Hopefully it ends up being a relatively simple/doable thing. Thanks Edited January 17, 2017 by GreenTea
