Gosunkugi
First off, enormously grateful to those that keep the MAME metadata updated, but we desperately need something like a "MESS" platform for the database so we can add metadata that doesnt fall under the arcade description. I understand each computer will have its own entry, but I'm referring to things like LCD handhelds, system devices, chess machines, and all the esoterica. This will help clear up a LOT of incorrect entries. We're tens of thousands of games in for MAME now, and it's only going to get worse. I'm happy to do my part, but I can't do anything without a proper platform.
Gosunkugi
To clear up any confusion, the following picture; using Ms. Pac-Man as an example; shows the same id (#15079) being automatically attributed during import to at least four games. Only one of which is the actual arcade game. The other three in the screenshot are handhelds and a plug&play game. What I propose is to either add a MESS platform to the launchbox database so we can add the games that don't fall into the arcade category, and are slipping through the cracks, or Handheld, Plug & Play, Chess Machine etc platforms. Something, anything to avoid repeated errors cropping up for same name games.
Thanatos_Prime
Does skipping non-arcade games when importing no longer fix the issue?
Gosunkugi
If you don't want the games in your collection sure, but the database still lists them incorrectly, so the problem persists. Whether you import a single game or as part of a set you'd expect the metadata to have the correct information for it.
Thanatos_Prime
The database is split into platforms, the vast majority the items in the from MESS\Mame have entries in the Arcade platform. Some of those items can likely be found shoe-horned under the Game & Watch platform, some like Palm Phones, Imagic Selector for the Atari and Macintosh 512ke roms are not currently part of any of the platforms. There is currently an effort in place to expand the database, perhaps you can think of which useful platform should be added in order to achieve your goal.
