programgames
Hello everyone, I want to contribute to the launchbox game database, specifically for Pokémon games. So i added some french Pokémon game titles, but after some games, i realized that everything is not completely normalized. Explication : Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition Here we have : - The main game title "Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition" but the cover indicate Pokémon Yellow Version Special Pikachu Edition without the ":" , and I'm missing the full uppercase in the "YELLOW VERSION" part VS in igdb.com : Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition , so I guess "Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition" is the right universal name. There is two alternative names in the LB database without the country : In igdb, there is multiple alternative names : Quote Alternative Titles Alternative spelling: Pokemon Yellow Italian title: Pokémon Giallo French title: Pokémon Jaune Spanish title: Pokémon Amarillo Alternative spelling: Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition German title: Pokémon Gelb Japanese title - original: ポケットモンスターピカチュウ French alternative title: Pokémon Version Jaune : Edition Spéciale Pikachu Italian alternative title: Pokémon Versione Gialla: Speciale Edizione Pikachu German alternative title: Pokémon Gelbe Edition Japanese title - romanization: Pocket Monsters Pikachu Spanish alternative title: Pokémon Edición Amarilla German alternative title: Pokémon Special Pikachu Edition French alternative title: Pokémon Version Jaune Alternative spelling: Pokémon Yellow Version Portuguese title: Pokémon Versão Amarela: Edição Especial Pikachu Abbreviation: Pokémon Yellow As we can see for french : "Pokémon Jaune" the shortcut name as French title. "Pokémon Version Jaune" as French alternative title. And finally another French alternative title: "Pokémon Version Jaune : Edition Spéciale Pikachu". Another example : https://www.igdb.com/games/pokemon-red-version Here , we don't have the ":" , because there is not a suffix to the title like special edition, explorer of the darkness ... So, If i want to correctly add all pokémon french titles : I have to replicate what is in igdb ? Which translated name is used in priority in launchbox if I set french as primary language ? The ":" colon have to be added mannually in the game title even if it is not written on the game box to separate suffix ( on the game box, the seperation is often represented as a like break) For Pokémon Y : https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/17514-pokemon-y - If the french name is the same as the "main" title ( which is not "world" ) , should I add "Pokémon Y" as french title too ? even if it's the same ? PS : Quote The reason for the accent (which you usually find in pronunciation dictionaries) is because without the accent the word Pokemon would be pronounced poke-mon. The accent on the 'e' gives the sound 'ay', so that it sounds like Pokay-mon. Edited November 19 by programgames

I think LB randomly picks one of them. 5 hours ago, programgames said: If the french name is the same as the "main" title ( which is not "world" ) , should I add "Pokémon Y" as french title too ? even if it's the same ? No need for that, since it's the same as the main title. You should use the alt title field only for names that differ from the main one.
