Symlink question

Thinking of porting my installation over to a NAS.

I wanted to ask, if I setup symlinks for the games/media - will this prevent Launchbox from creating all those region folders in my images folders, and more importantly, will it prevent LB from renaming a games media files if I change the metadata inside LB?
