  2. After importing NES roms as "Nintendo Famicom", I could not find the system under Consoles. It turns out that it was put under root for some reason (ie alongside Arcade, Computers, Consoles). But, not just the console name -- its sub-categories were put there too. It got worse. When I deleted one of them, more categories popped up under root. Now I have what seems like dozens of wrongly placed categories but no quick way to re-organize them (it takes 5-10 seconds after clicking before the delete command can be used). [edit: I read the deletion warning again that after deletion the subcategories would be moved under root by design. I am confused by this behavior] [edit2: even though I deleted both the Famicom and Famicom Disk System and they have no associated games, their empty playlists remain and I am diligently working at deleting them slowly. It's like a secret LaunchBox built-in mini-game, killing zombie playlists from a failed import! This game mechanics is all grinding though] I think this is not the first time I encountered this issue. I suspect the problem may be related to renamed system names.
  3. Yeah that would mean sorting by release date for more precision. Glad to know there are others who are interested in the history of games.

I think this design is fine for shorter names that can fit on one line, but some filenames need 3 or 4 lines which will take up most of the image, which kind of defeats the purpose of displaying those images. There are ways to deal with this issue using this new theme, such as: - show only one line at the bottom for up to some number of characters of the game name, then truncate the remainder (eg "Super Mario 64 ..."), and then users can click and check out the info box on the right for the full name - display only the main part of the name, without certain information such as revision number. - shrink the name by using smaller fonts for longer names - use a more transparent text background for additional visibility
  5. In my LaunchBox window, the game names are overlapping the images. The problem is that many names are way too large relative to the images and often cover up more than half of the image, rendering the screen shot or box art etc almost invisible. Is there a way to display each game's name below their image?

  7. I noticed that Virtua Fighter 32X has problems with my Retroarch PicoDrive core v1.9.2 (latest). It either freezes at the beginning of the first stage, or it plays but the opponent doesn't do anything. Is this an emulator problem or am I using a bad dump?

Launchbox can scrape filenames containing regions such as (UE) and (JU), which it recognizes as regions "United States, Europe" and "United States, Japan" A couple issues though: 1) (U) is scraped as "United States" but (USA) is scraped as "North America". This is inconsistent. Wouldn't it be more logical if both say United States? 2) 3-region names such as (JUE) or (J)(U)(E) are not being scraped as expected. They either return no regions or just one such as "Europe". Renaming these to "world" wouldn't be ideal since they wouldn't be displayed under the respective regions.
  9. This feature is accessed under the desktop Launchbox's "Platform Category" view. It can generate playlists under the platform in question. But if the platform was previously renamed (eg. from "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" to "Nintendo Super Famicom"), it seems to get confused and would put the playlists under Root in addition to under the platform as intended. I would have to delete those playlists to fix this.

  12. Do we need a paid subscription to Emumovies to scrape even standard quality videos using Launchbox Premium? I was under the impression that we could still get standard quality for free.
  13. I'm following the official tutorial on Youtube about grabbing videos from Emumovies. My problem is when I click on "Download images/media" for a game, I have never seen any video from Emumovies being available for download, for all the titles I tried on different platforms. For the EmuMovies tab, I get box, cart, music, but no videos, unlike on the tutorial. For the default tab "Launchbox Games Database / Wikipedia / Steam", I sometimes see "Big Box Cinematix Theme Video". I'm also getting weird things such as getting music for the wrong title, even though the name of the game appears to be scraped correctly. Any ideas?
  14. This is possible in basic LaunchBox by using "arrange by"->"release date" or "release date year". This appears to be impossible in BigBox. Is this correct? I didn't expect the premium interface would not allow me to browse games chronologically.

  16. For some games I only have the English version in LaunchBox, and I'd like to add other versions such as the Japanese version. But whenever I do, unless I specify the option to force duplicate entries, the importer would say 0 game added, refusing to add the ROM to the library even though it's a different version. for example, if I first import: Legend of Zelda, The - A Link to the Past (US).zip then when I import: Zelda no Densetsu - Kamigami no Triforce (Japan).zip The importer would not add the second game, meaning I cannot right click on the first game to access the Japanese version. To get around this, so far I've had to check "force importing duplicate game", and get a duplicate entry. Is this normal behavior? Is there a way to get the importer to add different language versions and merge them under the same game? By the way, when I force duplicates, the importer takes 5+ minutes to add a single game, compared to seconds when adding a non-duplicate game. It's very slow and seems rather abnormal.

  19. In my LaunchBox 9.4, using the Platform Category view, "Sega Genesis" is listed as a separate category, even though it should logically be listed under "Consoles". That is, my categories look like "Arcade, Computers, Consoles, Sega Genesis".
  20. I launched ScummVM outside LaunchBox and then closed it. After that, it seemed to remember the choice.

I noticed that on the game DB there are 2 entries for the same game: MS DOS: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/9688 ScummVM: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/92976 Is it standard practice to have 2 entries for each DOS game that supports ScummVM? The user rating for the ScummVM entry is much higher than the MS DOS entry. Perhaps users are having more success with ScummVM on average. ScummVM is also used by GOG.com's release of the game.
  22. Yes I know we can specify which emulator is used after we added the game. The problem is that the default option, Dosbox, apparently doesn't work as-configured by LaunchBox, or at least doesn't work as well as ScummVM, which just works. That's why it'd be nice if LaunchBox can automatically detect the game and flag it to be used with ScummVM instead of Dosbox. The game does work for me, so I'm just talking about making the import process more idiot-proof for everyone.
  23. Everytime I launch a DOS game by ScummVM, it says "ScummVM now supports automatic check for updates which requires access to the internet. Would you like to enable this feature?" This notice always comes back even though I already selected an option such as "never". How do I disable this?
  24. Can users modify how LaunchBox handles launching a specific game by default? I tried to import a DOS game (Beneath a Steel Sky, which is free) and LaunchBox used Dosbox by default, but it didn't work. Online resources indicate that the game is supposed to be launched with ScummVM instead, which worked for me.
