    I have an old launchbox so maybe new versions do have this, but when i bulk add files that dont need an emulator it forces ne to choose one anyway. Then i have to go back and bulk ediit remove the emulator from them all. Not the end of the world, but would be cool if it wasnt forced.

  3. Right click on Windows button in bottom left and choose Command Prompt (Admin)

    type this in

    sfc /SCANNOW

    return

    then when it's done type

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    return

    May or may not help, but it's something to try. If your Launchbox in on a different hdd than C then type cd E: or F: or whatever the drive letter is before doing these.

    If that doesn't help I would install a fresh Launchbox from Launchbox.com in a new location, then copy your data, themes, LBthemes folders and if you use music copy that folder same for videos from the current one to the new one so that you don't lose anything and see if that helps. In this case you're starting fresh yet keeping your data at the same time.

    One [major] thing to consider is why it's still running in Task Manager after exiting.

    (more so with LaunchBox) When it exits, it closes the UI [right away] so you can go about doing other 'computer' stuff.  After closing the UI, LaunchBox then goes about saving any changes (e.g. adding platform/games, editing stuff, etc.) that were cached during your session, in the background. Thus still present in Task Manager and not instantly being able to restart it [right away].

    "Killing" it in Task Manager will essentially erase any changes that have not yet been saved to your drive.  The amount changes you made (as well as the speed of your system) will determine how long it actually stays in Task Manager after "closing".  I've seen it take from nary a couple seconds to upwards of 45 minutes.  Do NOT take the 45 minutes as a measure of any sort of norm.  That was on an old, slow arse machine, and I had done a MASSIVE import.  Use it as just an [exaggerated] indicator that the more changes made, the longer it may take.

    The takeaway here is, let it finish "doing its thing" in the background, without "killing it" and potentially compromising your build.  Make a mental note of changes you made and then take note of how long it actually stays in Task Manager.  Even if it appears nothing is happening, wait it out.

    If you find you're making little-to-no changes and it stays in Task Manager after exiting 10-minutes (that's just a round number I threw out there) and doesn't go away, then it should be looked into further.

    On a related note, you may want to look at and upvote this Feature Request if you agree with it: Feedback - Seamless Switching Between LaunchBox and Big Box When Launching Executables

    I agree with what you're saying in essence, but you can't make any changes in Big Box anyway. I've done it hundreds of times with no effect what so ever. This script is only meant if someone is using Big Box and wants to switch to Launchbox not the other way around also not if they just have Launchbox open. Ultimately though I do agree, if possible find the culprit of the problem and fix it, but I was never able to.

  5. I just made this script it has two files it can kill both Launchbox and Big Box at the same time and neither should be in task manager, and then it restarts Launchbox.exe automatically, essentially solving the problem. It does require installing autohotkey which in itself is not hard just go to autohotkey.com install it to your computer and download the .vbs below file put it in the same folder where your Launchbox.exe folder is as well as download the .ahk script and put in the same location. You just double click the .ahk to make it an active script and you can press ctrl alt t over Big Box (which in autohotkey language is ^!t) you can change the keys if you like, even to just a single key like for example scrolllock or F4. Let me know if you any help is needed, goes for anyone.

    You can right click on the .ahk and make it an .exe and click on that if you prefer but either .ahk or .exe can be ran, then right click on the one you want and make a shortcut and put it in startup folder that way it's ongoing when you restart your computer. There's even a way to make an autohotkey script to do it with controller, but I usually use joytokey to map keys to my controller.

    Just make sure Big Box and is the active window when doing the key combo, or just double clicking killlaunchbox.vbs will kill both as well without big box being the window you're on actively, but it's more practical probably to use keyboard key(s) or controller I would think. I tested it myself, worked fine.

    Kill Big Box Ctrl + Alt + T.ahkKillLaunchbox.vbs

  6. I'm not totally blaming it on your computer because part of it has to do with coding but it is a computer issue. Files can get corrupted and things like that. You could try a fresh install of Launchbox in a new location, and then copy the important folders from your old one like data, themes, lbthemes, and startup themes if you use them and see if that helps. If not you could try to run cmd prompt as administrator and do sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  7. I had the same problem for a long time, and decided to make an autohotkey script that can kill it from task manager by hitting a key or key combo of your choosing and can even restart Launchbox after all with just that single hotkey. I can give it to you and help you set it up (if you have no autohotkey experience) if you'd like. But in my case, it just seemed to have went away on it's own I don't know how to actually fix it.  Possibly the only way is to totally start with a fresh install of Windows on your computer which obviously is not ideal.

    But it's not actually only an issue on new versions. I am still using a Launchbox from 2020 because every time I try to update I'd have to reinstall like 700 games and there's no way so I keep the old one and it happened on it.

    It loads the same.  Can you share a screenshot of your (LaunchBox) emulator settings.  Make sure to check all 3 boxes (No quotes... etc).  Also show the Associated Platforms section.  And make sure the ROMs can be "seen" by DEmul.  Easiest way is to place them in its /roms/ folder.

    I got it working, I forgot to put = at the end of -run=hikaru -rom=, thanks.

  9. They have a new Demul out after 7 years and now it plays Virtual-On Force. So I added a new emulator because I don't mind having multiple of the same emulators at first but it wasn't working so I assumed I had some settings wrong but I compared it to the old Demul it looked the same. But just to make sure I changed the old Demul emulator in Launchbox to the new Demul, but yet it still closes. So I know the settings should be right in Launchbox. Maybe they made some changes in Demul that makes it load roms differently? The rom does load outside of Launchbox just not in Launchbox.

  10. You can try a fresh install of the new version in a new location, then copy the data and images folders to the new install location then you should be fine.  Also if you have themes copy those folders as well, LBthemes is for Launchbox themes and just themes is Big Box.

  11. For awhile I was having a lot of trouble with apps or certain games not showing on the monitor I wanted but I started using Borderless Gaming app as I was also having trouble with a few games going fullscreen but it has an option to specify which monitor you prefer for any game or app you could try it. Just have Big Box running and use the right arrow to put it on the right side and right click on it there and choose the monitor you want. Run Borderless Gaming with startup and it should always do it automatically. It also should help with Big Box not being full screen.

  12. I keep multiple copies of my Launchbox on external hard drives, you could consider that only a few gbs. You can get a 500 gb one for $20-$30 if you don't already have one. Then you would just have to copy it to the next computer.

    But as far as directories, you have to make sure you name your computer username the same as the old computer, then it should be fine. But also if on the old computer if you had games at in downloads or games folder it has to match. This is assuming you have games and emulators outside your Launchbox. If they're all inside your Launchbox folder it doesn't matter what you name your computer or directories.

    I realize now I'm mostly just repeating what was in the link JoeViking provided, so I apologize.

  13. This will hide the titlebar in Launchbox with Ctrl + Z, and then to unhide it just press Ctrl + Z again, so now you can hide unhide the menu like you can the sidebar.

    Edit: just thought about it, might only work if your resolution is 1920 x 1080. If you have 4k and want it to work let me know I'll see what I can do. Although it might work fine on it because you're only increasing the top a certain amount of pixels.

    Also  even when the text to the menu items are hidden, you can still click on them anyway.

    Me? Hardly ever.  But the moment that [hypothetically] gets changed to a Yes/No only option, someone's going to say...

    "When I'm viewing my playlists and I want to remove a game from my collection, I have to remove it from my playlist, then switch to platforms view, go to that platform, find the game and then also delete it from there.  Why can't I just be able to remove it from my collection when viewing it in the playlist?"

    I meant OP like why does it even need to be changed to avoid hitting yes once.
