Not sure if you've resolved this already, but I was getting a very similar error on MAME 232 RomSet. I found another thread on this forum which mentions devreorder (the dinput order remapping tool) and that it was causing a conflict. I've since removed it from my system and was able to complete the import. Hope that helps others maybe even yourself!
