  1. I’m curious if anyone is using Launchbox/BigBox through moonlight on a handheld. I have retroarch serving as the emulator for most of my games and it works well. I was able to setup the R1+L3 combination to bring up the menu where I can exit the game and then exit the emulator bringing me back to BigBox. That was all done through retroarch settings.

I’m trying to do the same thing for RPCS3 but there are no such settings in the emulator so I was curious how you all are doing it.

I’m currently using a handheld device with Xbox input controls. I use moonlight to access BigBox.

The MAME Arcade Full Set [Import] Wizard will allow for combining parent and clone ROMs.  I don't believe importing for other platforms will.

No.  If that works, it's just a coincidence. ;)

If they're not really name BLES and BLUS and are actually named the exact same, there's a couple ways to go about this.

One is to edit one of them and change the games Title to something like BLUS-US to distinguish it from the other. Then combine.

Another is to just combine them, then Edit the combined game(s).  Go to the Additional Apps section and click the one you want to be default and then click Make Default (in the lower right corner of that screen).

    Excellent. Thank you!

I think what you're asking is to combine the 2 (or more) games into one [visible] entry and then be able to choose which region version to play.

Click the EU version and then press and hold Ctrl and click on the US version.  (Let go of the Ctrl key)  With the 2 games now both selected, right-click on one of them and select Combine Selected Games... and follow the prompts.

The 1st prompt is to select which game will be the 'main' game.  This will be the one that is visible and the default one that will play.  To play [one of] the other region(s), right click the game and select Play Version then select the version you want to play.

Ok. I would prefer to use the US version as the "main" game but when I am asked to select which one they are both the same name so I can't tell which is which.

Also, correct me if I am wrong but this is a process that the normal importer would have done automatically with any other platform, right?

  4. This tool worked amazingly. Huge time savings. Thank you!

One question though. I have a few games with duplicates. Two different GameIDs. After looking at them I noticed that the difference is in region. BLES (EU) vs BLUS (US) in most cases. Does launchbox have a way to clean this up to make it a version of the game instead of two separate entities?

Also, I would like to add that when I imported the metadata originally I selected to import for all instead of the recommended setting which only updates empty fields. What that caused is the region to be overwritten to blank. So I had to do it all over and use the recommended setting. My fault, but just an FYI for others in case they are having the same issue.

The Exit Script page only affects when exiting from the pause menu. Running tab is where would typically paste any AHK for use when actively playing the game.  Yuzu does not need any script in LB. Yuzu actually uses Ctrl+Q to close the emulator and that is one of the command LB will send when it send the Close Active Window call.

Just tested and works fine for me. I do also have my buttons mapped directly in Yuzu to exit as well. So try mapping those 2 same buttons in the emulators settings.

Interesting. I'm going to try that now.

So just to be sure, I'm going to delete that script I have in exit. Change exit on Yuzu back to Ctrl+Q and then do the controller mapping for close active window as button7+button8.

    Is that correct?

  6. Escape on the keyboard would normally exit yuzu, though.

I had a question about close active window. Does BB pass that command on to the emulator? When a game is launched the emulator is the active window so wouldn't any mappings come from the emulator instead or does BB actually pass through the close active window command to close the emulator?

If you are mapping in the "Controller Mapping" page you just hit both buttons together. For example (the button numbers here are just random and may not be your specific buttons) It will reflect as: Close Active Window Button 8+Button 7

I tried that and it's not closing. In fact, for some reason it will kill my escape key button on the keyboard. Not sure what is going on but I have to reboot my computer to get the escape key to work again.

you can select a hotkey in Big Box's controller mapping options. Go to the "close active window" option and set the hotkey on the controller there.

I see where the close active window option is, where is the hotkey option? If I wanted to do select+start how would that look like in the settings?

  9. I'm hoping to get some help on this as I have been searching for a few days now with no solution. I currently have Yuzu installed and when I launch it from Big Box I can't exit it using a controller. I'd like to do like retroarch and press Select+Start to exit but I can't figure out how to do it. I have Esc as the keyboard key to exit in Yuzu. The keyboard works fine but I am streaming via moonlight on a handheld and I don't have the option of pulling up a keyboard. I need to be able to do it from the controller.

    Any ideas?

Working directory I believe should be \\LaunchBox\Core\. If that doesn't work just try setting it to the \\LaunchBox folder

    Neither of those worked, unfortunately.

  11. I'm setting up Sunshine as a host for moonlight and I've added BigBox as an app. One of the parameters I need to set up is working directory. What would the working directory of BigBox be?

To add some color to this... right now without the working directory set BigBox launches and I can navigate, but when I press play game it says the rom is not found. "The ROM file you've specified does not exist." I am aware that this means the launch directory for the file is not finding the game. It's set up correctly and pointing at the right file. If I use the host pc it will run it. I believe it is because it needs to have a working directory specified.

  12. Hey everyone. I'm having an issue with controls while playing a game launched from Bigbox while I'm moonlighting. BigBox is launched without a problem and the controller works as I navigate through the platforms, games, and hit play. Then the loading screen comes up as expected and the notification from retroarch that the xbox controller was detected appears like normal but nothing works on the controller at that point.

I have BigBox added as a game in GeForce Experience. Is there a setting in there I need to worry about? Is there a setting in moonlight?

    Any ideas?

  13. Hey all. First, thank you for the tips on -batch and settings within QT to get this up and running. I ended up converting my collection to CHD for all of the obvious benefits, but didn't realize that the stable release wouldn't play them. So I started my journey into the QT nightly build this morning.

I just have one issue though. I can't seem to exit back to LB with an xbox controller. I'm moonlighting into my system with an Odin which has xinput controls and I'd like to use start+select to exit the emulator back into LB the same way I did with retroarch. Using esc on the keyboard works fine but that means I have to go back to my PC, login and hit escape. I'd like to just use start+select on my controller instead.

    Any ideas?

No, actually, not at all. In that scenario it would be rather important to have completely separate/copied setups. I suppose you *could* use the same media files, but you're probably still asking for trouble if you're making any modifications. So I would recommend just leaving the duplication then. Not sure anything else will really work well.

What sort of "modifications" could cause me trouble?

You might need to modify your network share permissions/group policies to allow executing apps from the network share.

That brings up another question. If I launched from the network share could I also launch from the main PC? Let's say I'm playing on the main PC and my son is accessing the virtualization. Can we both use that same app?

  16. 8 minutes ago, Jason Carr said:

For what it's worth, did you know you can you have two different LaunchBox installations on the same machine without virtualization? I'm just not sure why you would want to do that in the first place.

But you would set it up the same way you would set up any network share (but explaining how to do that is probably outside the scope of these forums and I'm sure there's a million walkthroughs for that online). The only custom step would be just changing the paths for your media files, which is done under Tools > Manage Platforms. Alternatively, you could keep the entire LaunchBox folder, including the app, on the network share.

There is a new App (Castor) that will allow me to create a virtualization that we can access remotely with Android. In my case I will be using an Odin. This will allow me to play games on this virtualization and keep my PC available for use by someone else. It uses a patched Moonlight. Traditionally, using moonlight will occupy the entire PC while you are using it remotely. With Castor that is not the case because the one being utilized is the virtualization.

Edit for clarity: The end goal would be to access my entire library of games without the limit of 1TB on a microSD card. It would also allow me to use the theme I currently have on my desktop which I love... instead of being limited by what Android LB offers.

Hope that makes sense. I imagine this will come up more often as Castor is relatively new and it solves a big problem people have been complaining about moonlight.

Thanks for your help. I tried the entire Launchbox folder on the network share but loading the LB app from there did not work. I'll try going to Tools > Manage Platforms.

  17. I ended up using a sync program but I currently have over 300GB of these media files. I'd rather only have one set. I don't think there will be much of a performance hit because the second PC is actually a virtualization in PC 1. For the sake of clarity I said it was 2 PCs originally, but it's really one PC and a virtualization in that PC.

Would you be able to share how I can get launchbox on each sharing these media files?

1 hour ago, Jason Carr said:

@DanCue You can do that, but it's not recommended for performance reasons. Generally, you can keep your game files (ROMs) on the network and that should work fine. However, it's a bad idea for performance to keep your media files over the network.

A better idea is to use FreeFileSync to simply sync/copy the files between machines while LaunchBox is closed.

  18. I have two PCs on my local network. I plan to install Launchbox on each but I don't want to have to save all of the files from each LB instance. I already have LB set up with all of the games on one PC and want to add the other and don't want to go through the whole setup/cleanup phase I had to go through. Is there anyway to have the LB from the second PC point to the network-mapped drive of my other PC and load all of the games/images/videos etc?

  19. Understood. I will try to connect through USB again. I’m also having issues with my card now so I’ll have to wait for a new one anyways but I will report back if I get it up and running. I imagine many others will be coming here as they start to receive their Odin devices.
