Yeah i get the same odd error. The other games dont import because they are already imported, BUT in some instances you need to import games with the same name and using "force import duplicates" DOES import them all when you dont want it to. Hope this gets fixed soon

UPDATE... i gave up trying to figure it out and did a complete reinstall of mame because i found some settings in the cntrl folder that i didnt recognize. Now with Xpadder (because of the encoder board) everything seems to be saving correctly and working properly. ill let you know if anything else screws up.. BTW... Here are some shots of the unit im building. I was going to build a full cabinet, but i wanted something modular (to save space) and since i built this out of junk incase something blows lol (i raid the local electronics dump since i know the guy that works there personally) Everything you see here except the control panel box and the encoder boards for it was free lol.. I have a 4k mounted up top for the main monitor, second monitor is also 4k and on a lift out for pinball (as you can see) when not in use, it folds down flush with the wall. Speakers are a TV sound bar with a nice subwoofer, old 10 in Motorola tablet with spacedesk running for third monitor. Table for the control panel is an old pet grooming table lolz... runnning an i7-7700 wih 32 g ram and 24TB of storage 😃 thank you so much for the help... or the attempts at help.

nope... tried with and without xpadder running from launchbox, still will not save settings. Wipes them as soon as you close and reload. Forgot to also mention that i noticed that when i change a setting in mame, the new setting is greyed out. Is that normal or is that because it will not save? Havent messed with mame in a while and not sure but i think when i used to make changes, they were in white lettering... now they are greyed.

I am building a home cab and i have 2 joystick encoders set up for 2 sets of controls. Tonight i was trying to set up MAME and every time i would exit the game, mame would not save the controller settings. Now with that said, i did a little investigation on my own and it seems that Launchbox is messing with the Mame controller settings (or not letting Mame save the settings). I know this because i can launch Mame outside of launchbox and change settings and it saves them perfectly. I cant seem to find a way to tell Launchbox to not Override the Mame controller settings when launching from inside Launchbox.. Anyone have a simple solution?? I do NOT want to have to go through all 6000+ games in mame outside of launchbox and set the control settings jut to get them to work correctly in Launchbox. ... Yeah i know i could do Global outside of mame, but small changes to the files for each game is sometimes necessary when playing.

When importing windows .lnk files or shortcuts, even though i choose the third option, Launchbox imports the links as if they have to use an emulator. Its a simple fix per game, Edit and then go to emulation and uncheck use an emulator.... But thought someone else might need to know.

ive been doing some testing but still cant figure it out... however, i did notice that if you load launchbox and let it sit for about 5 mins, you dont get the error on imports. it may be that the update broke the way it reads the XML files, or slowed them down? Anyway, if i load and the try to import i get the same error, but if i just let it chill for about 5 mins while i get a cup of coffee... it works.. lol.. just thought i would share.

nope... didnt fix the problem. =( An error occurred while trying to import games: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. still getting that popup.. no hard crash. just the warning window and then the import closes. btw.. got this error when i tried an import after a reboot. Imported 3 times, and on the third try it worked. importing mainly by drag and drop.

Tried this and seems to be working. Never had this happen until the current update though. Will test more and let you know if i run into any more problems.

i get this also... when i start up launchbox, the first few minutes, any rom i try to import for any system gives me this. Eventually, it will import (say after 4 or 5 mins) and then everything works perfectly until i shut it down and reload it.

im getting the same error on import when i first start up launchbox. Something in the latest update broke something. Was thinking of re-installing but i have a ton of custom menus etc... would i lose everything and have to reimport it all? if i just install it again without reinstalling to correct any missing files.

checked this... tried a fresh install on another pc and got the same result. Might be because im using the mame merged set so dunno. Anyway.. got manual import to work fine then i just right click and set emulator as mame.. works great.

nah the names are right... timber.zip and i did a full import of all roms using the mame import feature. Found another one also... Super Pinball Action rom name is spbactn.zip This one it just left out ... did import when i did manually add it though
