Pokémon Emerald Version

I recently started looking back at Pokémon Emerald and one thing I was thinking about was the starter choice. Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip all give the game a different feel, especially during the early part of the adventure. I personally think Mudkip is an interesting choice because of its later evolution, but I know a lot of players prefer Torchic or Treecko. For anyone who has played Emerald, which starter did you choose on your first playthrough, and would you pick the same one again?
