  1. I figured it was something like that... That reminds me of how file sorting in File Explorer has evolved over the years. I found this article that's pretty interesting. Windows Confidential: The Evolution of Sorting http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/hh475812.aspx I liked this part: As a result, when Windows 95 sorted file names for display in Windows Explorer, it would put file139 ahead of file20. This is perfectly logical from a computer programmer’s point of view. It’s also completely counter-intuitive to normal human beings—thus proving that computer programmers are not normal human beings. Like how normal human beings start counting at one, but programmers start counting at zero What are your thoughts about sorting titles that begin with "The"? I've noticed before that the venerable Winamp used to sort bands that started with "The" not in the T's and instead striped out the "The." So "Rolling Stones" and "The Rolling Stones" were both found in the R's. It's something I've always appreciated, although I never realized it wasn't an option... as in, they hard-coded it to do that, leaving some people uncomfortable about its implementation. It would obviously be better if they gave you an option to turn that on or off. Here's a thread of some users discussing it and people's support or objections to it: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=346148 FWIW
  2. Hey, not a problem. Thanks for the great launcher!
  3. There really needs to be an "X" button in the search box that immediately clears the search. It's such a small bit of polish that really makes searching better. That way you don't have to highlight the text and then press delete to restore the list of all your games, you simply click the little "X" Like this for example:
  4. Obviously not a huge deal, but why are titles that start with numbers ordered last when arranged by title? (e.g. 1943 comes after Zombies Ate My Neighbors).
  5. I discovered a minor bug: when adding a game cover that I had downloaded myself from the web, the file extension was in all caps (in this case it was .PNG, rather than .png), and LaunchBox told me it was an "invalid file format." When I changed the extension to be all lower case, LB let me add the image.
  6. I have this exact same problem. Sometimes, but not always, the window size and position gets reset (window gets smaller and the position is the upper left side of the screen). It's the only program I use that this happens on -- that's kind of why it stands out and is annoying. I always shut down LB properly (i.e I don't force kill it and it never crashes But I'd say about every 5 to 10 launches of LaunchBox itself (not a game, but cold starting LaunchBox after shutting it down), the window is much smaller that I left it previously (like 800x600), and I either run it maximized (1920x1080) or sometimes not maximzed around 1500x900. It's just a source of minor friction when it happens, causing me to have to resize the window to my liking. But I wish it didn't happen
  7. I've noticed that if you make any changes to the interface of LaunchBox (either intentionally by resizing the window, or unintentionally by showing or hiding any of the sidebars), then all the game covers get reordered. But if you had a cover selected, it gets pushed up or down, often out of view and you lose track of the game you were looking at causing you to get very disoriented. I looked at another program I use, an image browser called ACDsee to see how they handled it (and after all, LaunchBox at its core is really an image browser), and I noticed if I opened a folder of a few hundred images, scrolled down a bit and selected one, and then changed the size of the interface by resizing the window or turning on or off sidebars, the image I had selected would automatically stay in view, even as the number of columns were changing around it causing all the images to be reordered. Why not have whatever game is selected stay in focus when the number of columns change? For example, the selected game will always appear on the top row if any changes to the interface cause a reordering of the covers.
  8. I would also like to cast my vote for an option to auto-minimize LB upon launching a game, either to the tray or the taskbar (options for both is highly welcome). I have two specific examples in mind: I have dual monitors, and they're widescreen, but I prefer to play old Nintendo ROMs in 4:3 aspect ratio. So if I have LaunchBox open and maximized on a wide-screen monitor, then launch a ROM, I'm seeing other games' box covers in the background. I prefer the clean look of just an NES or Game Boy game playing in a window and just my OS's wallpaper in the background. The other is when playing some DOSbox games, and in that case, the whole resolution of my monitor changes from high-definition to tiny-definition and LB gets resized and pushed over to monitor two... it'd be nice to have it auto-minimize before launching DOSBox.
  9. Well, it all adds up... when you have 50 or 60 processes running at any given time, and a couple web browsers open (both Firefox and Chrome can swell to over a 1GB of RAM after running them for even a few minutes). Thanks for sending over that older version.
  10. I'm seeing up to 137MB of RAM usage, and 110MB of pagefile VM. With 2.0 I rarely saw over 80MB of RAM usage.
  11. Hey Jason, I've turned on Windows default styles and turned off the RAM cache, and LaunchBox still uses at least more than twice the RAM that LB 2.0 did. Also, scrolling is much more sluggish than 2.0 was. I'm actually thinking of downgrading down to 2.0 -- but I'd rather try using version 3.6 or 3.7, however I've never been able to download them. (An aside: it's very unusual for any developer of any software project (unless it's Google) to actively prevent users from downloading older versions... for what that's worth.)
  12. I'd like to download a previous version of LB (mainly due to speed issues; versions 4+ aren't officially supported on my OS, and it uses up a lot more RAM than version 2, and it's generally slower for me). I'd like to try out any of the versions 3~... but the trouble is, I click on any of the older version download links, and only the latest version opens (as of today, it's 4.2) For example, I click on "Download LaunchBox 3.6 here" which opens the following URL: https://www.launchbox-app.com/index.php?sdmon=wp-content/downloads/LaunchBox-3.6-Setup.exe HOWEVER, when the EXE file actually opens up, it's "LaunchBox-4.2-Setup.exe" Can you put archive section on the site, maybe on the downloads page, that has links to previous versions? Thanks!
  13. I've learned that even though the latest and greatest usually has some amazing new features and looks really nice, they usually break a dozen things in the process that I've come to rely on and take for granted... then I have to learn a whole new set of workarounds for things that are so basic, it seems we should have solved them last century. hahaha!
  14. XP works too well... that's the problem. My motivation to upgrade is not very high. I will probably upgrade to Windows 7 sometime this next year though.
  15. I'm using XP.. although I see that the problem doesn't exist in Windows 7. Why would this be?
