Still not finished, but wanted to share and ask if I can make a new thread dedicated to "Game Room Overlays?"

Would anyone be interested in making some more console overlays?

For now, you're probably better off using another media launcher-program like kodi https://kodi.tv/ It's basically like launchbox, but built mostly for movies, tv programs, music, etc. And within kodi, you can add a direct shortcut to launchbox/bigbox and then you'll have everything you need! :)

Right on! I do use Kodi but I wanted to have everything together, I wasnt aware you could add LB to Kodi so i will do that. Thanks!

  3. OMG this is great! can you make png overlays for Retroarch like this? Its basically the same thing, a bedroom png for each console with the TV being usable so i can resize retroarch to fit into it. I have something similar which I used from New Retro Theme and resized it. But I want something with a bigger TV and the cool posters and such. Does that make sense?

if it worked for you already I would assume the artwork just needs to be redone/reworked to fit the area. Can you set the game size screen to be smaller in retroarch to fit within the tv? I assumed if just filled the whole screen.

Months ago I was trying to figure out how to get the TV overlays to work in my RetroPie setup but couldn't figure it out. Where does the overlay file get uplaoded to and how do you select it in RetroPie/EmulationStation? I knew how to overlay scanlines, i would assume same way to overlay the TV screen. What kinda file does the tv overlay have to be saved as?

Ok I figured it out. I took the png image out and cropped it and now it looks like the attached image. I did this for each system. Now, to get them to work in retroarch as overlays, you need to make a .cfg file (ive included one, just replace the name with each console you have a png image for). Just make sure the name of the png image is listed in the .cfg file and put them in a folder in the Retroarch root directory and then go into your retroarch menu, go to settings, overlays and chose the cfg for the console you want. Now you need to resize the screen in retroarch. Go to video settings menu and look for the "aspect ratio index" setting and put it on custom, then you can resize the screen using the four settings below that option. Its tedious to resize but once it fits in it looks great!

I have included the N64 png i resized and a cfg file, you can copy this cfg file over and over and just replace the name of the png image. Thats it!

If we could just get a slightly bigger TV in this, it would be amazing.

Hey everyone, so I'm (slowly) working on a new theme inspired by the aesthetics of "New Retro Arcade Neon". Up to this point I've only done the platforms that I currently have myself. This really started as a vanity project, but I figured maybe other people would be interested. The individual platforms take a pretty decent amount of work, so they take a while to produce. I also am using some assets from different sources:

    - The background image is a screenshot from New Retro Arcade

    - The carpet texture is also from New Retro Arcade

    - The ambient arcade sounds are from Andy Hofle's Arcade Ambience Project

I'm also planning on making images for the third "Game Details" view with the "Play, flip box, etc." (the one a lot of people turn off). But that's tabled for the moment.

A bit of the in's and outs of this are that; as I am not a programmer ..at least not a skilled one, these platform images are actually Banner image replacements. My intent was to only really use this one view so that works fine, but if you wanted to use a different view it would look a little screwed up. I figure in the future they could be converted to be platform videos, but I just don't have the time to work all that out at the moment.

So this is both a heads-up saying "Hey this is something in the works", but also a request for a little help. As I try to make the files ready for upload here, I'm running into a problem with my XAML. File paths need to be changed to make background images work, but the bigger issue is that, when I copied the them file and moved it to my desktop to edit it, it now gives me an "Invalid Markup" and my "transistions:transistionpresenter" tag is giving me errors.

SO!!! All that being said, if anyone is interested in helping me figure this fellow out, I will gladly upload the theme folder for anyone to play around with and actually get working. I hope this is something you guys are interested in, and thanks for being such an awesome community, and Launchbox for being such an awesome product!

I posted this in the Bedroom thread but it applies here too.

Question for you (or anyone) though, I was experimenting with this style background from the New Retro Big Box theme by taking the TV and Desk PNG and making a CFG file so i can use it as a retroarch TV overlay and play the games through the TV with the system and desk in view. It worked!!! BUT the TV screen is small as hell for playing and the TV and desk are off to the side (because of the console wheel space.) so my question is, Would it be possible to make these TV pngs modified to be able to use as retroarch TV overlays? I would think the only thing to be done would be to make the TV slightly bigger and the desk and TV more towards the center.

That way each system you play, you are playing it in the TV on the desk with the console right next to it! Ive included a PNG of the file from NRBB so you can see.

I think I have the SNES Platform screen pretty much final. Just have to figure out how to get rid of the pink 1990 and SNES text off the screen and doing something a little nicer with the platform wheel. But the main image/collage itself is pretty much done. I think it came out ok. Feel free to add any comments/suggestions.

I know SNES was 1990 but I put stuff in the room from a small range of the early 90's as if the person's had the SNES for a while now.

Cripes, took this long just to do ONE console so far in only the Platform view so far lol.

Hallo...just gauging if there's any interest at all in a theme I'm messing around with. Basing it off  skainlurmis 's New Retro Big Box Theme. I like his theme but decided to tinker around a little and make it look like the consoles are in rooms that would match the decade of the console.

Here's two that are a work in progress...One is for the NES. I didn't change the table/tv and a couple other elements that were already in the NRBB theme..just the wall, a new NES angle (i know the controller is cut off, was just for positioning purposes) and the posters/items/toys.

The SNES one I started from scratch with a new table/tv and all that so that's why its brighter lit up than the original NRBB theme which has the darker arcade setting/lighting.

Any other suggestions/comments? Doesn't necessarily have to be a bedroom...could be any room but using a blank wall as a background with some flooring makes it easier to use posters of the decade in the back.

If there's no real interest that's ok..I'm still going to do them for my own use :)

Here's the two samples. Work in Progress and I've never created a theme before so be gentle lol.

EDIT: Added an update to the SNES pic...didn't like the table open on the bottom so closed it and added some stickers...also some soda and candy.

EDIT 2: 4th image added for SNES...is the actual arcade game in a room too much? I figured this person loves games and may have an arcade in their room too.

    Oh. My. GOD.

THIS is EXACTLY what I have always wanted!!! Each theme on here has a piece of what im looking for. Such as Vikings theme videos with the TV and Console, but I wasnt a fan of the blank backgrounds but your theme here is perfect. Each console with the TV and Room decorations of the decade so that it looks like you are in that room just like your mock up screen shots. Nailed it!! I wish I could be of some help but I have zero skills when it comes to these things. I am EXTREMELY interested in this. My bedroom still looks like this lol. I have a retro mancave and I keep it very close to these screenshots. I game exclusively on PC and my retro gaming is also exclusively on PC through Launchbox. Sometimes I miss having my physical media, so this def brings back memories.

    Fantastic work!

another question...new to LaunchBox and like i said I like to tinker with things...are we allowed to change stuff with a user's created theme? I like your theme but was just messing around with making it a "bedroom" theme instead of arcade theme and changing the room around for each decade. Messed around with an 80's room for the NES...very rough but just wanted an idea of what it could look like.

This is awesome!!! I like the Bedroom theme much better! It would be cool to be able to have the arcade theme for the arcade systems and then have these bedroom themes for the consoles which each console having the TV of its era and posters of its era in there. What an amazing theme if that could be done like above!
