  1. Thanks for sharing that lord, I'll check it out and compare it to MAMEUIFX default raster.ini. the UIFX default is setup pretty good, I don't think it can be improved much beyond overbrightness.
    I just noticed certain games, I guess something 3D like 1 on 1 Government... in RetroArch with crt-royale-kurozumi it doesn't work right cause it "jitters". I've seen it before in other 3D stuff like
    Fighter's Megamix on Saturn.

  2. Thanks bro. What is the custom launchbox command to use a different config, though? I agree standalone MAME is better at the moment, but I can't get the HLSL to look as good as crt-royale-kurozumi.

    EDIT: I suppose I could just set the vertical games to load standalone MAME also. That might be a better solution as HLSL is probably better than any of the vertical shaders I can find in RetroArch.

  3. What would be the best way of setting the vertical games to use a different shader in RetroArch when I load those?

    I am currently using a MAME romset in Launchbox (Arcade Platform) set to launch RetroArch MAME 0.170 core.
    The shader I like to use for horizontal games is crt-royale-kurozumi.cgp. This shader does not work for vertical but I found
    one that does. I just don't really know the best way of going about configuring all the vertical games to use another shader.

  4. Yeah, it's definitely not something many would use. In my odd case, I use separate LaunchBox installs per-platform and launch each platform from a Steam grid icon linked to one of the BigBox.exes. For example, if I want to play NES, I just launch the Nintendo Entertainment System Steam grid icon and it loads the BigBox install that just has NES/Famicom and Disk System games. So in cases like that the platform wheel doesn't look too good. I guess the best compromise would be an option to turn off platform wheel repeating/looping. EDIT: However, if I could launch BigBox straight into a chosen platform... I wouldn't need multiple LaunchBox installs per-platform.
  5. I tried asking the same thing a few weeks ago, but never got a response. I don't think it's possible at the moment, unless I am missing the option somewhere. You can request this feature be added here: https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox/issues/new In your case, you could split MAME into some sub-platforms with a Neo-Geo section, Capcom CPS-1, Capcom CPS-2, etc.
  6. You can grab box art when you add the game, or you can do it individually, or all at the same time later. If your games are already imported, just go to TOOLS > DOWNLOAD METADATA AND IMAGES. I'm sure you can put custom box art for games, but I haven't tried it. I assume it just has to be named correctly and in the right folder.
  7. Thanks bro. Actually it wasn't exactly my fault as the problem was my foldername where roms are located had a character not supported by LaunchBox (²). So I renamed the folder from "NEC - NEC PC-ENGINE & SUPER CD-ROM²" to "NEC - NEC PC-ENGINE & SUPER CD-ROM2". Now they load properly. For some reason I didn't think about trying this until reading your reply, so thanks.
  8. Well, GPU Sync wouldn't do much anyway. I could barely tell a difference with it on or off before I found out about frame delay. I was under the impression that Gsync WAS a form of Vsync, just way better. Best I can tell you to do is what I did, if you have an SD CRT TV and a real NES. I literally loaded up Super Mario Bros. on both next to each other, put one controller in each hand and just sat there repeatedly jumping at the same time. If Mario lands first on the NES, then the other is lagging too much. Yeah it's a real crude way to test, lol...but it works if you don't want to get all crazy using cameras to measure by the millisecond. Mario jumping on RetroArch NEStopia never landed at the same exact time as on the NES, until I turned on frame delay. I'd love to do tests with Gsync, but I don't have it. NES emulation was really bothering me before this. Even my friend for the past 15 years could never beat Mike Tyson on Punch-Out!! using emulation. So I setup RetroArch with my settings at his house and he finally beat him the first try, for the first time ever with emulation. So it's definitely good enough now. I think it's difficult for people to tell there is input lag a lot of times, unless it's a twitch game they are very familiar with playing on real hardware. EDIT: Also, I think I've read hunterk say before that using GPU-Sync and Frame Delay at the same time has no effect since they both basically do the same thing. But, I notice lag too much with just GPU sync so I just leave them both on since it won't hurt.
  9. You don't need to do anything with No-Intro romsets other than load them in LaunchBox and then delete what you don't want in there. I just do my organizing in LaunchBox for consoles. If you want to delete a game in LaunchBox along with the actual rom file, you can do that too by checking off an option in the options. The filenames are fine for No-Intro and it's the standard. Most of the games will match up to the LaunchBox database metadata and images for the games. LaunchBox Games DataBase is in alpha though, so of course there will be cases where you have to manually edit games or rename them... also the database isn't perfect and might be missing some games, which you can contribute and add them yourself. It's a community edited database that will always be a WIP. Honestly, If you get your roms from a reliable good source than all you really need clrmamepro for is to update MAME romsets, which get updated once a month (if you want to stay up to date that often). There is no point in updating No-Intro with clrmamepro because the filesizes are small enough to just re-download the set when a new one comes out... which is not often. I think the latest No-Intro is (2016-01-03). That's what I do anyway. But... you can get a dat file for your no-intro sets and just make sure everything matches up, but it's optional.
  10. I'm sure it's fine with Gsync but if using Frame Delay it should always be set as high as it can go on your hardware (without any performance drop). 0 isn't going to do much. It goes up to 15 but I usually have to lower it anywhere from 10 down to 4, depending on the core. That's only cause I use a modified crt royale shader though, which is the heaviest shader GPU-wise. GPU Sync on the other hand should be set at 0 for the best option, if you use that.
  11. I didn't actually mean remove "all of it"... bad choice of wording. I just meant remove it to a point where it's unnoticeable. I'm not sure if GPU sync or Frame Delay only has an affect with vsync on. I have to use vsync with my monitor in everything. The options should still work with Gsync, though... I'd imagine, but don't know for sure. EDIT: It might just be GPU Sync that only works with vsync and probably gsync as well. I don't think it does enough anyway compared to frame delay. NES is where I really noticed lag more than other cores.
  12. GPU Sync alone isn't nearly good enough. I still saw a huge delay with just jumping in Super Mario Bros. NES. Use it in combination with Frame Delay set to as high of a setting as your GPU can handle. It will also depend on the shader and the core for how high you can set Frame Delay. After that the input lag is so low that it's unnoticeable, for me anyway. I tested next to real hardware on an SD CRT TV and a NES. It also helps to disable GPU downclocking in RetroArch.exe if using heavy shaders, otherwise you won't be able to set frame delay as high as you could.
  13. RetroArch is simply the best to use for a lot of platforms because it has many options like the ability to remove input lag and the best shader system, including the best CRT shader. At the very least, I'd suggest using it for NES, SNES, Mega Drive/Mega CD, PC-Engine/SuperGrafx/Super CD-Rom, Game Boy, GBA, Nintendo DS, Virtual Boy, 3DO, PSP. You can use it with many other platforms as well, but in certain cases like MAME, it's not always the best option at the moment. They are always improving it, so PS1 and N64 should be a lot better soon. I haven't tried everything in it yet, like Atari and MSX.
  14. Well... deleting the roms that aren't working with downloaded images, then re-importing them seems to fix the issue... whatever issue it is. I guess it's a fluke and they got screwed up for redoing my cover/meta downloads multiple times. Cannot get Airwolf (Japan) to link to it's proper database entry for the life of me though, http://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/32025 anyone have any luck with that? Tried renaming it to the DB name.
  15. 600 GameCube games? W00f. Anyhow, the images on the wheels are just the "clear logos". If you right-click on a game, click edit, then bottom right click download images/media... you may be able to grab the clear logo or any other images that may have not downloaded. It's possible there just isn't one available yet. Images and metadata are uploaded to and edited from the LaunchBox Games Database: http://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/ Not every game is going to have all images and not every platform will even have every game, yet. The community has to work to perfect the database. If you find or make a high-resolution clear logo with a transparent background that is good enough to use for a game that doesn't have it, feel free to upload it on the database. Just make sure the image is indeed missing from the database. The database is still in alpha, so for me not all images always download when I try to grab them all for the platform. For NES at least, I am having to grab certain images manually for some games by right-clicking on the game in Launchbox and going to Edit - Download Images/Media.
  16. Airwolf (Acclaim) is doing the same thing... and it also has a Japan version which won't link to Airwolf (Kyugo), but instead the database names it Airwolf (Acclaim) as well. Looks like this is an issue when you have 2 games from different regions, but why I'm the only one it's happening to is the question.
  17. @DOS76: Correct. I just started over again and it's still not sticking the Abadox cover. Deleted all images from the NES image folder, cleaned up all images, refreshed all images, then hit "Download Metadata and Images". For Abadox, the only thing that it downloaded was the clear logo. I click Edit, Download Images, everything is checked except the clear logo... they download, I hit ok, no change. Click edit... still only has the clear logo in there. Look in the image folder and what was downloaded and checked off is in there, but not showing up in LaunchBox. Keep in mind this is only one game... who knows how many are like this. In fact the first game on the list didn't download any of the images until i click Edit and do it manually ('89 Dennou Kyuusei Uranai). But, at least that one works when I do. @VACRMH: I have the Japan and USA No-Intro Roms. The Database named them both Abadox: The Deadly Inner War. They both have the same issue.
  18. Well, it can take hours to make a good cover... or it can take one hour. It really just depends on what the cover needs and the images available that you can use. Having to manually cut things out of their background to use is what really takes a lot of time. I don't think you would get anything that looks good for $2.50 in Reddit Gold or even $2.50 PayPal. It's just not worth it to a person who makes high quality art because of the time it would take. Unless they have a personal interest and want the cover themselves too. Is there any good NES hacks that don't have covers?
  19. lordshaithis said i should have thought of that, been doing that for my ps1 rpgs haha. Managed to find a few fan made covers for hacks so far. What i'm thinking of doing is, if there's any hacks i desperately want to keep and can't find art work, i'll make a list of them then go on to the photoshop requests subreddit and pay someone some reddit gold to knock them up for me haha. Yes i really am that anal about it! LaughLaugh
