  1. Thanks for the replies. I tried re-selecting the license xml on my desktop PC but it did not work, unfortunately. Running Big Box as administrator doesn't work either. Not sure what the problem is as my other Launchbox install for NES works fine after updating to 7.5. I did not try re-downloading a fresh Launchbox from the site, though. Could be the clean install I am using has gotten borked over multiple updates. I'll report back if it works, but you said you tried that I think.

  2. I started with a clean install of LaunchBox and added a few Wii U games. Problem is when I try to go into BigBox mode, it is just stuck on the first platform screen. If I select Wii U, I hear the sound but nothing happens. Same with "escape". Then all I can do is close bigbox from the task manager. Any ideas? Thanks

EDIT: It works fine in Desktop Mode, by the way.

  3. Excellent work, niglurion. I think this is the best theme that I've seen so far. You don't happen to have one for Famicom Disk System, do ya?
Or if you can send me a background .psd I can slap the hardware image on it in Photoshop. I was just going to use the Famicom background
and slap the Disk System hardware on top but the controller is in a position that would need moved to the left.

  4. I really like Zandronum 3.0. It's suppose to have the better mod-compatibility of ZDoom compared to Zandronum 2.1.2.
It's an alpha or beta download but it seemed to work fine. Not sure when the stable version will be out.

What I would really like to do is extract certain things from the BrutalDOOM mod that I like without changing the gameplay like the mod does.
I imagine it's a bit annoying to figure out which things in the mod file are what.

  5. I've been screwing with HLSL all day yesterday (and this morning). I just can't get it anywhere near looking as authentic as crt-royale-kurozumi, even though that's not really an arcade monitor but a Sony PVM-like shader.
It's still the only thing that looks realistic to me, but that's my opinion and preference of course. So this means I have to use RetroArch for the horizontal games, which is unfortunate because they don't really keep it up to date often.
I'll either end up using the custom config in RetroArch for vertical games, or standalone MAME with HLSL. I guess this just depends on if I can find a shader that looks better than HLSL in RetroArch for vertical games or not.
I'll have to try easymode-halation to see if it even flips the scanlines for vertical games.

  6. Yeah, I don't have much experience with it but the ones that I tried were ok. At least you can overclock it to never drop below 30 like on WWF No Mercy. That game had horrible framerate at times, particularly when there were 4 players or AI on screen at once. I don't recall if Mario 64 ever dropped below 30 but if it does, the overclock most likely won't cause any issues. For games that you clock from 30 FPS to 60, I'm sure some have issues.

Here is a zip fie with a couple of txt files containing my HLSL settings if you want to try them out. There are 2 txt files because there are 2 files you will need to edit. There is also a readme.txt that should explain what you need to do.

I tried them and it's pretty much the same thing as MAMEUIFX default for the most part. There are some slight setting differences but it looks the same. I like to just make the scanlines a little darker and remove a little bloom so it doesn't change so much of the colors and drown out scanlines. I also like to add a touch of convergence and hum bar.

  8. That's true. I'm not really completely satisfied with any shaders, to be honest. I would much prefer using an actual SD CRT TV or Sony BVM/PVM setup.

EDIT: But... He was talking about MAME's default HLSL settings, which I agree are not good. Default MAMEUIFX HLSL settings looks similar to what he is currently using.

  9. Should we add games to SEGA NAOMI, NAOMI 2, MODEL 1, MODEL 2, and MODEL 3 in the database?
I realize the games are in the Arcade section but I think it would be good to put them in their own platform as well.
Pretty much MODEL 1 is the only platform that is used in MAME... the rest use DEmul, Sega Model 2 Emulator, and Supermodel.
I had to import the NAOMI stuff as Arcade platform and it takes way too much manual editing after, such as renaming all the games.
