You can get the image URLs straight out of the XML itself, so you shouldn't need the other ID for that. Look at the GameImage objects in the XML. They match up to the DatabaseID of the game, which is also in the XML. You can just use the file name to construct the URL.

So it turns out that I'm a bit of an idiot, I didn't realize the images used base url, eg: "https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/images/image_example.jpg" (not constructed with database id). I'm sorry for bothering you with this, thanks for your help ?

Unfortunately it may not be available currently. I know we have a disconnect there, and I do need to provide a way around that. What's your use case?

    Hi Jason
I'm currently building a PS3 PKG-maker-inteface in python for creating PSP/PSX/PS2 ISO-file shortcuts to the XMB menu of the PS3.

Anyway, when these installments show on the main menu/XMB I want to to include the meta-data of the game, and some game art. Since I have a life-time license for this superb software I thought "hey, why can't I use the metadata launchbox use!", so I looked into the 200MB metadata.xml.

I think that your metadata seem really nicely structured compared many others I looked at and I'd love to integrate with it. Problem is that I can't really use the DatabaseIds from the xml to construct the image-links since the IDs doesn't match the website.

Suggestion (I totally understand if this is too much work):
    A) I guess The metadata.xml's "Game"-element would need an additional field like "LaunchBoxId" that corresponds to the website.
or B) A separate metadata dump could be done purely based on the website

This is my project if someone is interested.

Jason, I do appreciate you taking your time responding, thanks mate!

Will review this as well when I review the above.

It's ultimately a relic from the data from thegamesdb.net. There's both an old ID for thegamesdb.net and a new ID.

Hi Jason. Thank you for the reply. If you don't mind me asking, how do I go about looking up a "relic id" on the website (maybe I missed some kind of mapping db between these)?
    Thank you!

  4. @Jason Carr

i just wanted to say thank you to you and the team!
I've waited since February to check in if things changed regarding performance improvements. Not only does my PC perform perfectly in Cover Flow now, you also had the time to implement  the "Wall View", I can describe how happy I am staying along  not refunding my life license!

This really made my  weekend, I can finally start making my "mortal kombat-select-menu-theme"!

ill do the same, btw if u increse the amount of memory for the program it seams to work a bit better, im thinking this is an input tracking error, i saw something like this in other program i just cant remember how did i fix it....

Hi! Just to clarify, increasing the memory in Launchbox helps performance in Big Box?
I read earlier that memory-slider and BB are not correlated, I have mine set a 2500MB at the moment.

    @DOS76
It seems like running BB in 4K takes a significant performance hit. I tried lowering the resolution i windows to 1080p and it gave me better performance on the platform wheel and coverflow. Is there any option to force BB to 1080p instead of native res? Still I can game in 4K medium settings @60fps+ so there is something that isn't quite right with BB performance wise.

Well you guys have been great this is the first time you've posted in almost 3 weeks since having your problem it sucks that you can't get it working as expected if you still want to wait it out that's awesome just if you were feeling frustrated that would be an option.

    Hi buddy!
I'm sure there will come a solution for this (when a sufficient amount of people have answered the survey), thank you for understanding!
I'd much rather just wait, since the potential of this software is much to great to throw away.

I know you guys are doing your best to move performance forward so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Hi sir. I posted my survey just now. Thanks!

Thank you, I did test the things listed earlier, unfortunately my performance is still very low. Before continuing I'd like to say that really like the community and what you do here, and I don't want to come off rude in any way.

I really like the idea of this software so I bought a life time license (which ofc doesn't make me feel entitled or better than anyone else), but since I can't use it in this state it feels a bit dis encouraging and frustrating. What do I do now? I'm very happy with my system when playing demanding games and running benchmarks, so it doesn't seem to be any performance problems in my setup.

Could it be that I'm running my environment on a 4K monitor and BigBox somehow doesn't like that? I have no other monitor to test.

    Thanks for helping me.

Jason currently only implemented a 'wheel' navigation; however, I'd very interested to see a grid navigation with the following options at the theme level:

    • Specify dimensions of image
    • Specify number of rows and columns
    • Vertical or horizontal scroll

This feature would need to be requested.

Hi, Kevin. Thanks for replying to my post.
I fully agree with your list of functionality!

I'm a bit thick in my head today, but how do I officially make this into an official request?
I can see a message in the Features section saying "Please use the "Send Feedback" link in the header for feature requests", not sure what that means.

  9. Hi everyone.
I recently decided buy a forever license for launchbox since it seems to have a bright future ahead, especially with these awesome devs and contributing community!

I wonder if it would be possible to make a "grid view" (steam big picture mode style) to present the systems. I'd like to build something more "arcady" for my system selection screen, something like a fighting game character selection screen.
The standard wheel views would of course be much more handy for the game selection inside.

I'd love to have some technical input on this, or some hints!

    Thanks!

    Here ya go: Click

Edit: I included the images now as two zip files, because I think something went wrong with the imgur upload, not all the images are there.

    02.zip

    Hi Davy!

    I have two questions:

How did you achieve this "grid view" and would you mind sharing your theme for bigbox?
I'd like to make a similar view for the system view as well as the game view =)

    Thanks!

EDIT: ohh I see, this is not BB it's launchbox. My bad! (nice work!)
