Well, I have a portable installation of the Roms and Launchbox so I will just take it with me to test and make sure before spending the money. I am juts confused between the faster 2860 processor but with a quatro video card vs the not as fast 2670 but with a radeon 7470m.

I dont want to spend more than $200 (I will offer less than the $230 that third option is asking IF I decided to go with it) and the unit will not stay in the bedroom. The only reason I had the mini pc in the bedroom was because it can attach to the back of the TV so either I get a laptop that can do model 3, get a small desktop then unplug it when dont playing and store in a closet..or get a laptop that can serve me for other purposes. That is why I was more inclined for a laptop but it seems you were not impressed by those options lol Thanks

I found 3 options so far. $199 Dell M4600 with 16 GB RAM, primary 256 GB SSD and secondary drive of 512 GB spinning. Has Intel I7 -2860QM @2.5 GHz with 4 cores CPU with NVIDIA Quatro 2000M graphics card $150 This laptop has served me extremely well. It's a bit older, however it has all the components to be amazing. Specs: Intel i7 2.30ghz processor, windows 10, 8 GB RAM, 750 gb HDD, Nvidia GT 1gb dedicated graphics And for $230 i7 2670 8gb ram 750gb hdd Radeon 7470m graphics What you guys think?

On my current Z8350, model 3 games like Scud Racer runs slow not choppy, just not at the speed of my main pc so it would seem just some extra MHZ will be enough to make it smooth and fast. You are using the -new3d switch and it is still that slow? Maybe I will just go with the i5 or i7 laptop and call it a day then. Seems like a better investment anyways

Dummy me I ended up downloading the merged which is the only one not recommended here Well, I will finish downloading the non merged ones since the split one for .182 is broken it seems. So I will just go to the Arcade, click on a game and CTRL+A to delete all then import the Non Merged ones and hopefully it will see all the current downloaded media. Correct

Hello! So I got this mini pc with a Z8350 atom for my retro gaming. Originally it was meant to be Linux based but since it came with Windows 10 I decided to try Launchbox and love it so much that I cannot go with anything else. So this mini pc called Z83ii, is a lot more powerful than a Pi 3 for example thus I can do N64 and even Gamecube although not quite at best speeds. So after getting a test of this, and seeing that Model 3 emulation needs a bit more power, I was going to send this back and get another mini pc called Voyo V1 based on the intel N4200. Now, that one is going to be around $235 so then I started thinking that I can find a used laptop locally for around that price and with i5 or i7 processors that should be a lot more powerful than the N4200. At first the size of the mini pc was the cool thing to leave it in the bedroom behind the TV but is not a big deal to connect an HDMI to a laptop if I am going to have much better performance then the N4200 based system. BIGBOX for example seems very heavy for my current mini pc so I am not sure even the N4200 with 4GB of RAM (expandable to 8) will be a good choice. What you guys think?

Hello guys! Dont need a huge explanation but I got merged set first and now I am wondering if non merged would have been better for Launchbox setup as per your tutorial. I believe I heard one of your videos saying something pro Non Merged but perhaps I misunderstood. Thanks!

So I decided to kind of star over with MAME and got the Merged .182 ROMS and CHDs packages. With Launchbox I only need to import the ROMs and then in the MAME config I just make sure to enter the path for the ROMs and CHDs, correct? How do i remove my current MAME roms imported into Launchbox but keep all the media so that it does not re-download for the new ROM set I will be importing? Thanks!

It is very odd but after doing it a few times it finally took it (using the Bind all option). I wonder if the fact that these are generic versions of the 360 controllers create some issues...

When I start a game I see a message about XInput configured. Shows for User 1 and User 2. Doesnt that mean it is detecting both and auto configuring? At least from the tutorial I was reading.

Ok so I am getting pretty far now! One issue I am having is configuring controllers for Genesis with retroarch. This are generic Xbox 360 usb controllers so Retroarch says it is recognizing them BUT I have issues controlling..like Start does not seem to work and player 2 cannot move. Any ideas?

I am double checking as that might be it....no performance issue just sound issues. PS I thought I checked before but I still made the mistake indeed. Fixed it by selecting the right mame now lol. Time to clean up all those other copies. Thanks!

So I was trying to fix my zaxxon as well but something is wrong. I have the samples folder and added the patch in mame.ini. If I launch mame64.exe myself and open the versious zaxxon copies I have then the samples play as expected but if I try it from within Launchbox then I get no sound. Any ideas?

I am learning a lot and so much more to learn lol. At least after running the ROM set through clrmamepro and using the fix option, somehow I only see 1 error downloading images unlike my first try that had over 2,000 errors and was only on letter B LOL.

I was using clrmamepro and a tutorial and noticed that my Full set 180 ROMs (over 50GBs) have no SAMPLES folder....is this something no longer used or will I need to hunt those down too? It never ends LOL

Ok I am a moron! Didnt realize I needed to enter the path somewhere too so I just ran the mame -cc in CMD and then added the path. That made many games work now! Thanks for that. Now I need to figure out why somegames like Altered Beast fail. I tried running the mame.exe directly then at least I get to see the error which is like its missing ROM or CHD. Guess that is more I need to learn.

Sorry by standalone .181 do you mean you do not run it through Launchbox? Is it the 64 bits? If you are using Launchbox, are you selecting any of the options during the configuration? For example mine preselects the "Dont Use Quotes" options among others, when I select MAME. Also, is your ROM set .180 or which one? Thanks!

I got a full ROMSet of MAME .180 and I am having lots of issues with it. First of all I stopped the import on Letter B of the roms and already was showing over 2000 errors of not finding images but my main concern is that games that run fine on MAME for my phone like Altered Beast, will not even start with the MAME I am using (latest 64 bit build). Are you guys using Retroarch also for MAME. Not sure why so much issue...basically just a few games work like After Burner 2 so far. Thanks!

Actually it was installed on my Main PC so on the mini PC it was never really installed, I just copied all the folder from my main PC to the mini PC. That is what created the issue during the update on the Mini PC. But yes, it is on a thumb drive on the mini pc now.

So I tried installing over the existing "portable" installation and none of my games are showing so I am imported them but unchecked all the media things as I saw the images and movies still on the folders but it seems that everything shows up without a photo for the game. I am at work now so will need to check again later. Weird I may just finish updating on my main PC instead then move it to the mini pc and call it a day

I will try setting up Retroarch then...I was hoping for something simple but I am sure we have a guide here anyways I just paid for Big Box and love it! Cant wait to have all this running.

Do you have a favorite place to grab those? I am looking and so far only found .180 as the newest set so I am downloading that for now while I find 181 or an update file from 180 to 181 Thanks!

Hello! Since I am running Windows 10 64bits, I got a patched version of Kega for windows 10 (comes with a draw.dll) but it keeps failing with a draw error. What are you guys using for Sega Genesis/Sega CD? More importantly....regarding MAME...I have 3 ROM sets....139u which is called Mame4droid 9.139 ROM+extras (I got it long time ago for my phones), then I got all the MAME roms from the Raspberry Reys 128GB image, and then I have another one from a user that cleared out non working ROMS etc which was also posted for Raspberry. My problem is, it does not seem to be working too good for me. Like many games do not work, at least from the Reys 128GB rom set. Is there a Specific MAME version you guys prefer for Launchbox and a specific ROM set I should be using for it? At least I got Afterburner 2 to run with the latest MAME version after creating the ini from a guide I found on this forum. Thank you!

I dont think we are talking about the same thing. When I moved Launchbox full folder to my mini pc I made sure that the USB flash drive that has all the Roms and Emulators had the same drive letter as the harddrive on my PC so it worked right away without me having to configure anything. The problem seems to be that because I never installed Launchbox on the Mini PC , now it cannot actually upgrade it. Makes sense?
