  1. Hi all, not sure if there's an easy fix for this. When I run in BigBox mode, a few of the categories in the main list are missing clear logos, ones like Installed ExoDOS games, ScummVM SVN, Apple IIgs Magazines, etc. I've tried different themes, but all seem to have just text for those sections. Any way to pretty that up with logos that hopefully someone else created since I have zero artistic skills? I checked the folders for those categories and their Clear Logo folders, they were empty. TIA

  2. Hi all,

Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I prefer to use Boxes image group for showing images. Many of my DOS games only have screenshots. So, in options, under Box Front Properties, I have Box-Front, Screenshot- Game Title, and Screenshot- Gameplay checked, in that order, plus a bunch of others after that. But, choosing the Boxes group, I still only get images for the boxes, the rest is just blank tiles. I checked some of the blank tiles, they definitely have game title and gameplay screenshots in their directory.

Here's the weird thing: I have a separate ExoDOS setup on another drive, with the same Box Front configuration...and it works exactly as intended on that drive.

Any ideas what is preventing me from viewing both boxes and screenshots when no box images exist?

    Thanks for any help.

  3. Hi all,

Is the PS3GameImporter tool still the best method to import all my PS3 games? Also, when you extract the zip, there's a root folder that has another PS3GameImporter folder and a Source folder. Am I copying over that root folder with the two subfolders? Or just the embedded PS3GameImporter folder?

    Thanks for any help.

  4. Hi all,

I have a bunch of XBLA games but not sure how to add to LB. The files don't appear to have any extensions. Do I scrape them under 360 or is there some other category they go into? Also, will the scraper even recognize those files and if not, what do I need to do? Zip them up first or similar?

    Thanks for any help.

  5. Thanks for your help! I had tried it on Chrome and Edge on two different PCs, to my Outlook/Hotmail domains. Tried today to my business domain as well as GMail, worked fine. Went into the Hotmail settings and sure enough, for some reason, the launchbox domain was blocked, go figure. Problem solved, thanks again.

  6. Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked/answered. Is it possible to have ROMs for a single platform in multiple locations? For example, my current almost-full drive has maybe a dozen PS3 games but I want to add a ton more, requiring a second drive. Can I import those new ROMs but still have the old ones be seen in their original location?

    Thanks for any help.

  7. Hi all,

Was hoping to get some advice from the experts here.

My current setup is a 12 TB almost-full external drive that I can move around to the 3 computers that I use. However, to really get my collection to where I want it to be, I'm probably going to need a good 30-40 TB.

Recently, a client of mine went out of business and was kind enough to gift me a 96 TB (!) server, 8 X 12 TB drives. So, I'd like to use that server to store LB and access it from each workstation. So, a couple of questions:

    1. What's the best way to move the LB folder to the server and keep the paths intact? If I copy the entire external drive LB folder and give the server drive the same letter as the external drive, should it work out of the box?

    2. If I decide to just do a clean install, what's the ideal configuration? Install everything on the server and just map it from each workstation? Install LB locally on each workstation and just put the ROMS on the server? Full install on server but image cache on each workstation? Something else? All devices are connected with Cat 6 and a gigabit switch.

Appreciate any help with this, I've installed LB so many times I've lost count but with that amount of data, would want to make sure I do it right the first time.

    TIA

  8. Oh, great! I didn't think it would create the proper folder as the folder names are much shorter than the full game name in most cases, but it appears to create the proper folder name when I do that. Last question (I promise), once I do that, can the .zip files be deleted or archived to save space?

    Thanks again for the help.

  9. 6 hours ago, Timber-eXoProjects said:

yes, eXoDOS is designed to work this way

the gamefiles are zipped in /eXo/eXoDOS , the batch files and extras are in th subfolders of /eXo/eXoDOS/!dos

if you choose "Play..." in Launchbox for the first time, the gamezip is "installed" (=unzipped) in /eXo/eXoDOS/<gamefolder>
next time you choose "Play..." it directly starts the game (because it's already installed)

If you choose "Configure" in the Launchbox context menu of an eXoDOS game, you can uninstall the game. this means the /eXo/eXoDOS/<gamefolder> is deleted
(so next time you choose "Play..." it will ask to install again)

The questions for aspect, full/windowed ... are for each game. So when you install a game it asks you to setup these options for the chosen game.
This will be changed in the next version (v6), you then can decide to use global options for all games

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to do this other than one game at a time? I have around 50 games in favorites, it would be nice if I could do a mass "unzip" rather than each one manually.

  10. Hi all,

Realize this isn't a LB question per se but was hoping from some advice from anyone that knows eXoDOS well. I downloaded the full 550 GB version and ran the setup.bat which took most of the day to complete. Here's the issue: every time I go to run a game the first time, it says it's not installed and I have to unpack the files. The folder structure is set up with .zip files in the eXoDOS folder (each zip has all the required files). There's a !dos folder inside the eXoDOS folder with a subfolder for each game, each of those folders basically just has a couple of .bat files that will run the installation and create the game folder in the eXoDOS folder.

My question is: did I mess up the installation or is this the expected behavior? It would seem that every time I run a game, and it unpacks, I would no longer need that game's zip file. But, for every game, I get asked about aspect ratio and full/windowed...but I could have sworn I answered that during the main setup process.

    Any help appreciated.

  11. Hi all,

Couldn't find anywhere if this has been asked/answered. I imported my ExoDOS database into LB. I prefer using the Boxes image group but for a lot of the games, no front box covers exist. Almost every game has screenshots, and while I know how to manually change individual images, there are literally thousands in ExoDOS. I saw a post from about 6 years ago where someone had a utility that could change the designation from screenshot to front box, but the link no longer exists.

Is there some workaround for this, something where if no front cover exists it will show a different image group? Just tired of all those blank spaces!

    Thanks for any help.

  12. Hi all,

I have a bunch of GS images that don't have an OS attached so I need to run them from the GS desktop with the second image added to the GS/OS image on boot. Some are really sluggish when I fire them up. Where would I put the -ramsize -8M command? My current command line is: apple2gs -sl7 cffa2 -noautosave -gameio joy -ramsize 8M -keyboardprovider dinput -hard2 "E:\eXoDOS_Lite\Games\AppleIIGSHD\GSGAMES.po" -hard1, is this the correct place for it, or does it not really matter what order things are in?

    Thanks.

  13. Yes, you are correct, if I use the quotations, it works fine.

How do I translate that to the LB command line? I already unchecked the Don't use quotes option, how do I get LB to insert those quotes into the path of the ROM? Current settings attached.

    10-24-2021 11-56-22 AM.jpg

  14. Ah, ok, I see what you mean.

I think (??) I finally figured it out. I ran this command:

    PS E:\eXoDOS_Lite\Emulators\MAME> .\mame.exe apple2gs -v -sl7 cffa2 -noautosave -gameio joy -ramsize 8M -keyboardprovider dinput -hard1 E:\eXoDOS_Lite\Games\Apple IIGS\zany.po

I think it didn't like the name of the folder, because I got this output:

Not sure why it was trying to compare that to the Software List, but that's what was happening. So, I tried to move the .po to some other folder that didn't have II or IIGS in the name...and, IT WORKED! Launched perfectly from LB with no issues. So, I think it's just a matter of making sure I use a different folder name to get it to work. Wow, who woulda thunk it? Not me.

  15. The files needed are in the ROMs folder but the actual .hdv and .po image files are in other locations. I can get the games to launch in LB only if I put them in the root of the /mame folder.

I'm not sure if I follow how running that command would be affected by the changes I made in the LB settings. I run the .\mame.exe apple2gs -v -sl7 cffa2 -noautosave -gameio joy -ramsize 8M -keyboardprovider dinput -hard1 nox.hdv (my file name) when it's in the root of the /mame folder and it runs fine, the game boots up. But, that's from a Powershell command. I don't understand how deselecting those options in LB, which I did, will have any effect on the PS command when I run it separately. I agree that it has to be an issue with finding the .hdv file, since it boots fine in LB if the .hdv is in the root of MAME folder, it doesn't run if I have it in any other location.

Could it be something with my MAME.ini? The top lines are below, is it something in the rompath command if the game images are somewhere else? I tried putting the game image in the roms folder, but that didn't work, it can't find the file if it's anywhere other than the MAME folder root.

  16. Thanks for the help. I am using the 0.236 version of MAME and I downloaded that Apple2gs.zip from the Archive.org using the 0.236 romset.

And, I agree, I'm pulling my hair out, lol. I realize I only have around 5-6 games that are purely GS, much easier to just put those in the root of MAME and just run from there, no similar issues with my //e ROMs.

  17. Thanks...I should have mentioned, I already tried unchecking that option and restarting LB, no difference at all, still won't start. As mentioned, it DOES work if I add the file if it is sitting in the MAME root, just not any other folder.

  18. The errors are this:

:sl7:cffa2:cffa2_ata:0:hdd:image: error opening image file gsos.po with flags=00000003 (generic:2 No such file or directory)
:sl7:cffa2:cffa2_ata:0:hdd:image: error opening image file gsos.po with flags=00000001 (generic:2 No such file or directory)
Fatal error: Device Harddisk load (-harddisk1 gsos.po) failed: No such file or directory
    PS E:\eXoDOS_Lite\Emulators\MAME>

I was able to get it to work only if I moved the file into the MAME root folder, it works fine. It's when it's any place else that I have the issues. I added the file the standard way I've always added ROMs to LB, just point to the file, but clearly MAME can't find the file when it tries to launch. Any thoughts?

Also, when I was able to get it to run, there didn't seem to be any way to get out without a CTRL-ALT-DEL. Isn't TAB supposed to bring up the MAME UI? That definitely didn't work for me.

    Thanks.

  19. Trying to launch IIGS games with no luck so far, Thinking I might be missing/improperly named BIOS files, but here's a recap:

    1. Using MAME 0.236, default settings for the mame.ini file (see attached).

    2. Put all BIOS files for Apple IIe (apple2e.zip, a2diskiing.zip, d2fdc.zip, votrax.zip) into the MAME/roms folder root

    3. Put a ROM01 file called APPLE2GS.ROM in the ROMs folder, got this from the Whatisthe2GS site.

    4. Put an Apple2gs.zip file in MAME/ROMs that I downloaded from the the Archive.org site.

    4. Edited the command line parameter to: mame.exe apple2gs -sl7 cffa2 -noautosave -gameio joy -ramsize 8M -keyboardprovider dinput -hard1 File

    5. I'm trying to use just hard drive images in .po or .hdv format, they have been tested as working on an actual Apple IIGS that I have.

Pretty much nothing happens when I try to launch any game. I have a GS/OS .hdv image that flashes Initializing for a second in MAME but then crashes back to LB.

Any idea what I'm missing? Thanks for any help.

MAME can use them in 7z format,

Thanks. Final question for now (I promise), where do they go? I have a blank roms folder and a blank software folder (that I created). I have many multidisk games that I'd like to have in their own folders. Do I put those .7z files inthe root of the roms folder and then create subfolders in roms for each game?

  21. Thanks, is there any way to find just those files? The romset I was looking at is like, 50+ GB, seems like a lot to download just for 4 files.

EDIT Looks like I can just pull them off of archive.org. Most are .7z format, can I just unzip and put the individual files in the roms folder?
