  1. I'm one of those people that goes for full no intro sets... a completionist as it were. Updating within Launchbox has always been a bit of a chore. Up until now, I always had my games combined. So Europe versions were additional roms for example. The problem has been that when roms are renamed, removed, or added, it was impossible to have Launchbox scan for these changes and "merge" that with what I already had. With lots of roms changing over the course of say a year and half (about how long I waited this time to do a full update of some rom sets), you can imagine the dirtiness of it all. So I had a few options. First, I could just accept that the sets would be dirty. This drives me crazy in some part of my lizard brain so I try to avoid that. My other option (in the past) was to remove each platform (media and all) and re-import so it was nice and clean. This obviously took a long time. This leads me to this latest round of updates. I chose a new path. This time I was going to remove each platform, leaving the media in place, then re-import but this time just do the whole thing without combined games. The hope being that the next time I go to update, since everything is separated, I can actually scan for missing games and then import any missing games smoothly. I could then clean up the media as a final step. This has led to following issue. In this example I was attempting to update my SNES set. So first I deleted the platform, ensuring the media was left in place. Next, I imported all the SNES roms with the following settings: All media is checked, including EmuMovies Image downloads per image group is set to 1 Remove matched duplicate images is un-checked no bezels project import combined roms turned off After several minutes of processing, the media downloads begin. This has been REALLY slow. That goes for both Launchbox media and EmuMovies. It has taken about 24 hours to finish downloading the media from Launchbox before now moving onto EmuMovies. The strange part here I can sit and watch it take multiple minutes to get a single file. One yesterday took something like 8 hours. I want to point out that my installation of Launchbox is running off a NAS. I know someone is going to suggest that my HD is bad (everything else is running fine so I don't think this is the case) , or that running over the network is bad... but in my experience it has been just fine and solves an issue that is of scope here. I mention this because, while it doesn't seem like this is an issue since the bandwidth being used by Launchbox mentioned above is no where near the limit of the HD array or network, I can't rule this out as an issue. But I will say, this was never a problem in the past when updating sets. I also bring this up because I can see the bandwidth and total data used by Launchbox. When one of those image download stalls is happening, I check task manager, where it reports that Launchbox is using roughly 2MB/s of network. This doesn't appear to be internet traffic, but instead just a steady stream of data from the NAS. For the past 24 hours, windows reports that Launchbox has used nearly 300 GB of data download. Clearly I have not downloaded 300 GB of media (verified with my network stats), so that is mostly data from the NAS. So the questions are what is causing this to be so slow and what is Launchbox doing with all of that data from the NAS? It's almost like before it downloads any media file, it is scanning for something. But then none of the results are cached, so when it goes to download the next file, it just rescans again... or something? Any ideas here?
  2. I'm on 12.11 Yeah it is a huge difference once I figured out that you shouldn't have the platform selected while downloading.
  3. Ok half false alarm... What I learned today... if you have the platform selected while images/videos are downloading in the background, the downloads will go SUPER slow. It seems to be updating the UI after each image is downloaded. Still not sure on the best way to achieve the completionist update, but progress.
  4. I'll start this off by saying I'm one of the completionist people. I try to (every now and then) download the latest dat file for some platform and update my roms, and also ensure I have everything. When I do this, does any one have a method for how to go about updating to ensure everything lines up in lunchbox (meaning the rooms, media, etc)? I have tried first scanning for removed roms and then scanning for new roms... but this misses games for some reason. I haven't been able to trust this process. I posted this a while back and got no responses ( Instead, I decided to delete the whole platform and re-import. However this seems to be REALLY slow right now. I started with Atari 2600, which is roughly 600 games. I set it for the stock settings for images and movies, but turned off the "similar image scan" feature for now. It's been going for about an hour now is at file 156 of 5761... at this rate this is going to take MONTHS to update the platforms I have. There has to be a better way.
  5. Preface this with I am one of those guys who tries to get all roms for a set and pass clear mame dats... I have two scenarios here, but both involve the same overall procedure. An update to the dat happens, I update and clean my set using clear mame I run "Scan for removed ROMs" I run "Scan for added ROMs" For the first scenario, let's say the update was to the second rom (so NOT the parent). So in this case, let's just say that the "(Japan)" at the end of the file name was updated to "Japan2)" for some reason. In this case, when we scan for removed roms, it finds and removes the old rom. Then when I scan for new roms, the rom is re-found and added. I have to do a consolidate step, but no biggie. All seems to be working. For the second scenario, let's say the update was to the first rom (so the parent). Same idea... (USA) -> (USA2). Now when I remove, it get's removed like before. But when I scan for new roms, the renamed rom is not found. The net result is that when doing updates of sets, I have no choice but to not trust the "scan removed/added" process. I have had to resort to deleting the entire platform from Launchbox and then re-adding it. This is a relatively slow process if you have all the media options turned on and it destroys any data about number of plays or changes I have made information. Am I not doing the update right, meaning is there another series of steps I should be doing to get these sets clean in Launchbox when doing a full set update? Or is this a bug?
  6. Pinging... So I have done some testing on my end. My thinking was something like the following steps would be ideal. Update your mame set Run a "scan for missing roms" Do a full import Here's what I have found so far which is stopping the update process. If you have a full set imported, doing a "scan for missing roms" will remove any games that chd only (for example Golden Tee Fore series) or similar. This is not ideal as it removes them from any favorites you have setup, any defaults you have setup for specific games (such as launching some specific version), etc. Doing a full import does get the new full set, but overwrites any changes you have made to the games. This is a major headache as I have taken some time to setup defaults (like mentioned above), made sure certain games that were imported under the wrong name were corrected, etc. Combining these two issues together means that if you want to stay up to date with the latest, you have a lot of manual work to do each time. Additionally, if we wait and instead only update every once in a while, we further increase the number of affected games, making it both more work and harder to find all of the changes. Any thoughts here? Is there something I'm missing to make this process easier?
  7. Now that we have the import full mame set feature, what process is recommended for when I upgrade my rom set? In the past I would do the scan for missing roms followed by a scan for new roms. This missed a lot as I believe at the time LaunchBox was using the database to "verify" a game before it added to my list. Is there a way to do an update that would give the same end result as starting fresh? A related question... with whatever this upgrade process is, does the related playlists (Capcom, 4-Player, etc.) get updated also?
  8. Thanks for the quick reply! Yes both of those I know. For Mame I'm willing to concede defeat on that for now, although when the LB database is updated I'm a little unsure of the process I should go about to make sure all of the games are found. <---- topic for a different day As for consoles, I have the folder set to point to the appropriate place, but it won't find new additional apps. So yes it seems that it is not possible currently to do that.
  9. Let's say I have a game in launchbox for some system, foobar, with one or more rom files associated with it. Then let's say I download a new version of that game (foobar (1.2).rom). If I "scan for added roms" launchbox will say that there is no new roms. The only workaround I have found for this so far is to delete the game entirely and then scan for added roms which always seems to produce separate roms that I then have to merge. This isn't a huge deal when there are only a few roms being updated, but as we know MAME updates can be large and this method isn't feasible. Is there a way to make the "scan for added roms" add rom files that would be considered an additional app?
  10. New to Launchbox/Big Box... but love it so far. Bought premium and everything. Keep up the great work! I have a full mame set that I imported to start. After doing the media download i noticed that I had no where near the number of videos that are available on emumovies. I have done the media download wizard a few times now, and each time it downloads a few new ones. Any ideas why it doesn't pull in all of the media?
