We're still waiting on details on exactly what is happening, as we've never seen it or been able to replicate it. What video playback engine are you using when you experience the crashing? Does it happen with both video playback engines?

Have only ever used VLC as not a fan of the alternative :)

Cool, can you let me know if you still experience this at all in this release. If you are any details you could provide regarding what you were doing, what images got deleted, etc would really help.

It is no longer happening in this release, thank you :)

Previously what used to happen is an image getting deleted if I changed its category. Let's assume I changed what was categorized as 'gameplay screenshot' into 'background fanart'. Rather than reassigning the new category to the file in question it would disappear completely on pressing OK.

Looking for input from everyone in regard to images not being saved (or deleted) when using the Add/Edit Game screen or the Download Metadata and Media tool. Also want to know if this beta helps those getting prolonged 404 session retry attempt.

Tagging users who reported one of these issues:

    @OhBoy @vertigoelectric

You can add me to the list of users having fanart deleted when using the Add/Edit Game screen.

  4. This one has me puzzled.

I scraped Doom Eternal but every time I boot through LB it crashes the game on start-up. If I boot via Steam it works without issue.

This is the only game exhibiting such behavior.

    Any ideas?

  5. I updated to Windows version 20H2 and can no longer open LB or BB. The start  up dialogue appears on screen but the application doesn't launch. I hadn't updated past LB 11.4 since I was without a GPU for a while.

    Any ideas?

Hey all, the first 11.9 beta is out now with the following:

    • New Feature: LaunchBox can now easily import your Xbox and Microsoft Store games library; both installed and uninstalled games are supported and can be filtered in the wizard, though only games that have been started at least once can be imported (limitation of the Microsoft API)

Do we get a neat little badge icon with that? :)

Not able to test myself until later.

Yeah it is easy enough to change the emulator path. Just do it in the >Tools>Manage Emulators and edit for each on affected.

Where it can be a pain is if you are changing media path locations outside of the LB folder structure. Most do not mess with that, but just a heads up if you choose to.

I dodged a bullet then since all images, videos, themes, etc. are stored inside LB's default folder structure. It's only the roms and emulators that have their own path (which means my setup isn't portable but that's another story).

Keep in mind that is Rom path related only. If you are changing paths for emulators or media it is a more manual process.

Thanks, I figured this would need some manual intervention. Luckily I don't have too many emulators set up currently so the the process should be relatively straightforward.

  9. I would like to clean up my rom collection which means moving around a bunch of files. Can anyone think of an easy way to bulk-edit file paths in Launchbox so that I don't break my entire setup?

  10. Could someone please confirm the downgrade procedure to 11.2? I take it that LB has moved to the 'Core' folder as of 11.3. Do I select this folder when running the 11.2 installer? Or do I go back to the parent folder like it used to be? Will there be any complications later down the track when I inevitably upgrade again?

For now, I have no choice but to stay on 11.2 until plugins have been fixed, specifically PCSX2 Configurator.

  11. Hmm, I think that's what I did? Update to 11.3 > run LB > delete old shortcut > pin new shortcut. But it's completely stuffed it for me.

Can I restore an older version and try again?

EDIT: Right, I understand. There is another shortcut on the C drive that restores all functionality. Phew, crisis averted. Thanks!

  12. I screwed up...

After 11.3 had successfully installed I noticed that my existing LB shortcut in the taskbar duplicates the LB symbol when running the app - does that make sense? I click on the shortcut which proceeds to open LB as normal but adds another instance of the shortcut to the taskbar during operation. I suppose that is by design? I have a symbolic pointing to LB on another drive which might be the reason.

Anyway, I thought I'd clean this up and deleted the original shortcut after opening LB. I then pinned the running application to the taskbar. In turn, this seems to have wiped my rom and emulator paths to the point where LB can't open a single file in my library (path not found).

What used to be D\Games\Emulation etc. is now ...\Emulation etc. So the drive letter and folder name preceding my Emulation folder is missing.

Is there any way for me to restore the original settings?

Well the thing with MAME is its not just the emulator that is updated, the actual roms and bios files are also. This is why they are versioned, one rom may not of changed for 20 years, but another may of got a better dump last week, or the encryption on it was finally cracked rather than bypassed allowing better emulation, but the rom needs to be to be redumped first with the new files added to the zip.

It's really quite simple at the end of the day, don't update the emulator, just use the one made for your romset version as that is the only way you will have 100% compatability. If you want to update the emulator because the emulation has improved for a specific game, you will likely need the updated rom as well, so just updating the emulator may break it rather than making it better as the new emulator version will be looking for a specific zip with very specific files inside of it, and when it cant find those files thats when it throws a fit and wont load the game.

I played around with this some more and ended up downgrading the emulator to an earlier build which made my roms compatible again. Still, I am not 100% sure I understand the versioning. I have always handpicked my roms regardless of platform. So instead of downloading these massively oversized romsets I pick only those that I am genuinely interested in. Doing it that way, however, doesn't tell me what version of the emulator is compatible with my rom files. Is there an easy way to figure this out?

I understand that downloading a pre-configured romset is easier but I can't be stuffed importing hundreds or even thousands of roms, most of which I'd never play. Even if I did, what happens if I need a newer version of the emulator because of game-specific improvements? Wouldn't I have to re-do my romsets from scratch?

NeoGeo bios was changed a few versions back, any romset from the last 2-3 months will have the bios included. Sounds like you have a older romset but a newer version of the emulator, this is exactly the reason you dont mix versions, you have a older set but the emulator expects the newer version. Either get a new bios/romset, or just use the correct emulator.

Yeah that makes sense. I had an older version of the emulator that I recently updated to the latest. But the romset is still an older one. I suppose I'll have to go search for an updated romset.

Mame is the only emulator that I know which complicates things simply by upgrading. Am I supposed to set up various Mame emulators based on romset differences?

  15. Apologies in advance for the necro bump.

I am having difficulties getting neogeo games to work correctly on the latest MAME emulator. It appears the bios I have is outdated and missing sp1-u4.bin, among others. Does anyone know where I can find the latest neogeo bios files?
