  1. Ok. One was retroarch specific and the other general. I don't need to use retroach. I just want better graphics. With ePSXe the graphics are very pixelated.
  2. Found that. Can't seem to get it to work at all. That core only seems to work with 1 game file that is .cue. The others are .bin and that core doesn't seem to like them. On top of that, when I try the one game from Big Box it won't load. The .bin files will only allow a SwanStation core associated with them for playstation.
  3. I am looking for a good recommendation for a PS1 emulator. I tried retroarch's beetle core, but it won't seem to work with the majority of the files I have in. They are in .bin format. I have ePSXe but the video quality is meh and some of the games are choppy.
  4. It has been awhile since I set up lunchbox and retroarch. I wanted to change to the BeetlePSX emulator from the current one I have. I updated retroarch and launchbox but when I edit retroarch in the emulator management tool, beetlepsx isn't an option for Playstation. How can I set this up so launchbox will load retroarch with this core?
  5. I am having an issue with setting up retroarch as an emulator. I am not sure if the issue is with launchbox or retroarch. I have download the Mupen core in retroarch. However, when I try to run a rom out of retroarch using this core 2 things happen. 1st, I select the Mupen as the core and then select a N64 rom. At this point retroarch shows no core. I repeat and it shows the core in the bottom left corner but all I get is a black screen. When trying to use Launchbox, I get a "loading" screen then dropped back into launch box. the 2nd attempt gives me a black screen. When checking out retroarch in Launchbox I see that it says "no core downloaded" I have deleted and then redownloaded the cores in retroarch and the one I want is in my "core" folder.
  6. I thought was the case until I found that oxMupen version. I wonder how they got the games to be less pixelated when compared to other versions
  7. I tried using various separate versions and the retroarch versions of mupen and all have the same result, except one. They are all quite pixelated to some degree or another and the video quality is spotty. I assumed all the versions of Mupen were this way until I tried oxMupen64. With the few games I tried, this was very clean with crisp lines and good video quality. My primary game used for testing is Mario Kart 64. Unfortunately this version does not seem to be well supported and I am having issues making some basic changes, such as controller layout. I also can't figure out how to set stuff up to auto run. When I select the game to play out of big box, it loads the emulator but then I have to select the game from the list in the emulator. How can I make either the well supported stand alone versions of Mupen or the Retroarch version of Mupen run smoothly with little pixelation?
  8. I may have asked this question in the wrong forum before. Is there a way to restrict access to some games with a password or have a login with 2 different user accounts, 1 that can access all and one with restricted game access?
  9. Is there a way to limit what games a specific user can play? Like put a code or something on them? Or have a log in screen come up with multiple users and allows certain users to access certain games?
  10. OK Dumb question. How do I know if the HDMI cable can handle it? know the GPU and MB can

    Retroarch issues

When I did the genesis core there was no need to reboot. Just when I did these other 4. oh well, now to config them.

    Retroarch issues

I just learned something. I was going to run through exact files names and when I started launchbox now all of them were there. I guess after every core download I need to reboot. edit: by reboot I mean I shut the pc totally off last night and started it up this morning. During working on it last night, I had opened and closed both retroarch and launchbox a number of times. When I got frustrated I shut the whole thing down, made this post, and went to bed.

    Retroarch issues

That response doesn't make sense to me. I have downloaded 4 cores but my list is a few dozen. Some for counsels I have never tried to load into launchbox so there would be no emulator at all on my pc.

    Retroarch issues

This confuses me more. If the dropdown shows what I have donwnloaded, why are there cores there that I have not (like the Wii) and why does the column on the other side (I forget the header) say "Missing Core?" I thought maybe that, but there isn't an option to leave that cell blank.

    Retroarch issues

ok. The dropdown menu does not contain the entire list of available cores. What if I want to use one not in the dropdown menu?

    Retroarch issues

    1) Atari 2600 2) That is my exact issue. The cores don't show up as available from the dropdown menu. The only cores that show up are the ones with "_libreto" after them. For example, I downloaded Messen for NES. My 2 options for NES are Messon_Libreto or Mess_libreto. Neither of these are options in retroarch.
  17. I am running Launchbox/big box on windows 10. I downloaded Retroarch 1.8.4 (newest stable) for windows 10. I have downloaded cores for Atari, N64, NES. When I try to set up retroarch as the emulator for these and i go to the "associated Platforms" tab it shows "missing core file" every core listed in the drop down menus ends in _libretro. None of the cores I downloaded gave me that option.

    N64 Emulator

I have a windows 10 64bit that I am setting up for retro gaming. I see in a pin post that Mupen64plus+GlideN64+Gui is recommended over project 64 because of the malware associated with the 2.X release of project 64. The "free" version of Mupen64 for windows is 32bit, not 64bit. The 64bit requires a patreon donation of $1/month. So $12/per year in perpetuity. Is it worth some expense? I don't mind spending a few dollars on a good N64 emulator but not 1 year worth and definitely not more then 1 year. Has anyone tried the newest release of project 64 2.3.2? Is it still full of malware/bloatware? I am looking for recommendations for a N64 emulator. I downloaded the 32but version of Mupen64 that is free but my dumba$$ can't seem to install it. I also have the older version of Project64 and that seems to work well but it is old.
  19. ran into a bit of a problem with this build. Hope someone can assist. I messed up and bought a Ryzen 5 2600 instead of the recommended one. I realized after install that it does not support on-board graphics. My motherboard does not have on-board wifi or bluetooth and the m.2 slot is taken up by a HDD. I purchased a PCIe wifi/bluetooth card. Then I bought a graphics card. It has been about 15 years or so since I built a PC. Graphics cards have drastically increased in size. I no long have access to the PCIe slot that would the wifi/bluetooth card. As I see it I have 2 options 1) One of these ribbon cables that moves the PCIe slot. HOWEVER they all say "Supports high speed PCI-E 1X, 4X,8X and16X card, but work at 1X speed only" My concern with this is that there will be lag with bluetooth game controllers. This is bad. 2) Buy a USB Wifi/bluetooth dongle like this. Or buy 1 wifi dongle and 1 bluetooth dongle My major concern is the bluetooth connection. My wifi on this will pretty much only be used for updates and like, not streaming or gaming. I need a Bluetooth adapter recommendation that will have minimal input lag.
  20. Well if I end up buying one it might as well be one that works better with emulation
  21. I already have One external 5 terabyte drive that I plan on using with this the hold media and large room sets. Can you suggest an Nvidia card around the same price point as the Radeon?
  22. Now that christmas is over I can get back to this. I watched the video above and used it as a guide for a build I am going to do. Below are the components of said build. As a reminder, I want to do the following: Use Kodi to watch movies up to 4k. From Kodi, go into Launchbox big box and play retro games on systems up to that of the PS1, MAYBE the PS2 but doubtful. A few systems that are important to me are Dosbox (OLD school games, like Oregon Trail), the 4 classic counsels, and N64 (Mario Kart is very important). Not sure about Mame yet. Here is my hardware: Samsung EVO 250GB SSD - Will be installing Windows 10 Pro 64bit 16GB RAM Asus B450M-A/CSM MotherBoard Ryzen 5 2600 Kingston A400 240G m.2 600w PSU I have the excess power because I am thinking I may pick up a Raedon RX 580 or other graphics card after taxes. Will I be terribly disappointed?
  23. Once I add in PSU, HDD to run OS, and OS. The price point is about $600. what are thoughts on something like this? https://www.newegg.com/hp-envy-750-615rz/p/N82E16883997613 or this which has an intel chip and nvidia card https://www.newegg.com/lenovo-legion-t530-28icb-90jl007rus/p/N82E16883998647 Keeping in mind what I am looking to do. No newer games, no systems newer then PS1
  24. This PC would be to watch movies/tv shows (not streamed) that range in resolution from 720 to 4K. It is to run emulators of old games (think Apple II/DOS) up to N64/PS1. I have no desire to run newer games with it. May upgrade all the fans to Nocuta or black silent at some point. Have those on my 3d printer and they nice and quiet. I have an older HP that the HDD fried on. It has a 300w PSU. Average case size. Think I use the case/PSU? It may be little on the light end. Especially if choose in install another fan or 2.
  25. Messing about with different things and got this warning: Warning! Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Picasso CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions. Note:Some physical dimension restrictions cannot (yet) be automatically checked, such as cpu cooler / RAM clearance with modules using tall heat spreaders. This occurred when choosing Ryzen 53400G with Gigabyte GA-AB350N-Gaming WIFI (rev. 1.0) Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard motherboad. Picked this so no wifi card or dongle needed Does the Ryzen 4 3400g output video in 4k @ 60hz?
