FUsauce
Hey, I had a quick question regarding the Bigbox plugin for Kodi. I want to know if the plug-in supports killing and resuming Kodi when launching Bigbox (and sleeping when games are running two). I really love the launchbox frontend and was amazed how "hassle free" everything was to setup, so now i want to use it on my HTPC, BUT some of the emulators i'm running (mainly dolphin ie.) really need every scrap of CPU time I can muster to run at full speed. So i was wondering if Bigbox is able to close down and resume (or suspend) Kodi while running emulators. Also it's interesting to know how much CPU time Launchbox itself takes while running a game. I apologize if I asked some redundant questions, but couldn't really find the answers i was looking for so far.
Jason Carr
Lol, nice name. I don't believe the plugin supports killing and re-opening Kodi, unfortunately. @Syriacn worked on the plugin, so we can ask him if that's possible. CPU should be rather minimal when LaunchBox or Big Box isn't focused. RAM can be on the higher end though in LaunchBox if you configure the RAM cache that way and don't tell it to clear it out before launching games (both of which are options under Tools > Options). FUsauce
Well i'm not too concerned with ram as i can always get more ;-) Cpu time is another matter though, especially for emulation. I thought there was an option in the launcher to shut down Kodi, but for some reason i could not get it to work. There is also an option to run a script pre and post launch, so it might be possible to suspend Kodi that way. I used a similar script with the now defunct Advanced Launcher plug in. At any length I will look into it when i get more time.
FUsauce
Just an update; Had some time today to mess around with the implementation a bit more today, and what i ended up with is just a simple batch file to suspend the Kodi.exe process while i'm in launchbox and resume it once i'm done with launchbox. It's a very basic, quick and dirty work around, but it does exactly what i need it to. I used the BigBox launcher plug in for xbmc/kodi to execute my batchfile, I hope the author won't mind me using it in this manner. One question though, the kodi launcher add on leaves a launcher tray icon on my desktop after starting launchbox, it seems to want to stay there after i exit launchbox. Not sure if that is going to be a problem in the long run, or if i'm better off killing the process along with launchbox? Anyways, i'm psyched that this all coming together so well. It's been a humongous PITA getting Kodi to serve as anything more than a fancy way of playing movies ever since Angelscry threw in the towel, so yeah, very impressed with the front-end here... will be transferring the install over to my HTPC after i hammer out a few more kinks ;-)
