jakerosswilson1@aol.com
Hi all. So a few weeks ago I decided to build an emulation PC using spare parts I had lying around, One of these parts was a Floppy Disk Drive and 100 or so Floppy Disks. The PC is set up to act as a console, so it boots strait into windows and then LaunchBox opens automatically. What I am now trying to figure out is if it is possible to create a .bat or similar file on a floppy disk that would tell the computer to run one of the games through LaunchBox when inserted. This would allow me to have my favourite games from each system boot from a physical disk, just like traditional console. Thanks for any help
Lordmonkus
I think I get what you are asking, you want to insert the floppy disk and then have that run a program on your computer automatically ? Though I don't know if this is possible to have it run a file through Launchbox or not but that would be rather pointless. You could just have the floppy disk auto run a program on your computer. It would simply be an autostart script on media insert when you insert the floppy disk and it would just run the .bat file which would in turn run the program you wanted and had in the .bat file. This is just me thinking about theory here, I cannot say for a fact this would work. This might be useful to what you want. http://www.ashzfall.com/products/autorun/autorunfloppy.html

The reason I thought it would have to go through LaunchBox is that when I exit the game I'd like for it to take me back to the LaunchBox menu as usual. Would this happen if I just ran the game normally? Thanks for the help and link, Ill check it out.
Lordmonkus
Yeah, what you are asking here is an extremely unusual way of doing things. The whole point of a front end such as Launchbox, emulators and rom files on a hard drive is to "not" use floppy disks or other physical media. jakerosswilson1@aol.com
Yeah I understand that, I guess I'm trying to have my cake and eat it. I don't want to keep the rom files on the floppy either, just the script that would launch them, this way I would be able to have floppys for newer systems that are too large and still be able to launch them from within LaunchBox.
