bostonkris34
Hello there and thank you for all the advice, these forums have been super helpful over the past year! I basically hacked together a solution for my cabinet but now I'm going back to it and trying to do it right, from scratch. To point - instead of downloading a full MAME rom set, I just hand-picked the 500 or so games I wanted to play, then manually set their Genre to categories I liked (classics, action, fighting, beat 'em ups, shmups, WTF, etc.). When I load up Big Box, I navigate by genre and it worked well enough. THe problem is, now I want to update to .195 and I have no idea how to use CLRMamePro (or whatever) to create custom lists, dat files... too much for this noob. Therefore, I just downloaded a complete set for 195 and am importing it into LaunchBox as we speak. So, what is the best practice to set up the ones you actually like to play? I don't want to use "Favorites" because I'll have favorites from within that group. I don't want to be overwhelmed by hundreds or thousands of games when scrolling through. I'd like to have say 50 different "Classics" as an example - Q*Bert, Ms. Pac-man, BurgerTime, Robotron 2084, Nibbler, etc. - and if I'm in the mood for a Fighting game, I'll pick that list instead. Since I'm importing all the games though, those default genres (which are different than mine) are going to be HUGE. Therefore - what is the best practice here? I have to imagine this is a fairly common issue. Should I...? Load ONLY the games I like into LaunchBox as I've done before, then sort by custom Genre? Load ALL games, then create sublists another way (playlists?) Do something totally different with custom romsets? Would love to know how you have solved this challenge! Thanks so much in advance and apologies if this is already addressed elsewhere on the forums - couldn't find info about it. Thanks again! DOS76
If you were to overwrite your old games that are in LB with the full set of roms only the games that are already in LB would be in LB and the other roms would be there taking up space but wouldn't have any effect on LB itself
bostonkris34
I'm ashamed I did not think of that. Brilliant. That's exactly what I will do... thanks!
