e4nash
Hi everyone, I just built a gaming PC to put in my Extension Cabinet to replace a Retropie. I installed Launchbox and configured some emulators but for some reason I cannot get the MAME games to run in Launchbox or Big Box. I am able to get them to run in MAME. I have attached a screenshot of my MAME config. When I choose the game I want to play it will flash initializing for less than 1 second and then go back to the previous screen. I have scoured YouTube for the tutorial videos and have watched so many they have started to run together. One of the tutorials I watched said to have your ROMs and Emulator folders outside of your Launchbox folder. I have tried it that way and I have tried having the MAME emulator folder in the Launchbox folder and the MAME roms in the Rom subfolder within the Mame folder. The same results occur no matter where they are placed. Any help you all can provide to get these working would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance! Lordmonkus
Do you have a complete set ? Does that set match your Mame version ? Did you tell Mame where your roms are located ? Do your games work through Mame on its own outside of Launchbox ?
e4nash
Do you have a complete set? Yes MAME 0.201 (35332 Roms...however only 12504 show as "working" in MAME) Yes, the games I am trying to load are "working" games. Does that set match your Mame version? Yes MAME 0.201 Did you tell Mame where your roms are located? This was likely the culprit. Since doing this it now works. I must've overlooked this. Thanks! e4nash
Well, maybe I spoke too soon. Some work and some don't. Lets use Area 51 as an example. In MAME it shows working but when I try to launch the game in LaunchBox it flashes initializing for a 1/10th of a second and never loads. In MAME it shows as a working game. This seems to be similar behavior across many MAME games.
Lordmonkus
Area 51 requires a CHD file and so will some others.
e4nash
How do I get a CHD file? Second Problem is now MAME won't even open at all. Not through Launchbox or by going directly to MAME on the PC. I have reinstalled it and the same issue occurs. I double Click on the MAME exe file and either a cmd screen will flash or nothing happens. I have not changed anything at all since I got it to finally work the other day. It has now just randomly quit on me.

As for your new problem, that I don't really have an answer for you other than try deleting the mame.ini file and creating a new fresh one or doing a fresh Mame install. Unfortunately I have done both and neither worked. May have to reload it all. What a PITA. Probably going to be a better use of my time and just buy one of those preconfigured hard drives.... Lordmonkus
Do that if you wish but i'll tell you right now it's a waste of money and good luck getting any support from the drive sellers, they're all scammers.
