WallyWonka
NES 3D Box Art Retail Spines View File This is probably my 3rd (and last) go at making a 3D box art set for the NES. There are many 3D boxes out there for the NES, but what makes this one special is the higher quality source images used and my favorite part, authentic retail spines used on all boxes (except some unlicensed prototypes that never even had box art to begin with). A lot of NES 3D boxes out there have the annoying NES logo on the spines, like this: I used to prefer that NES spine logo, but it now annoys me to no end. I wanted a complete set with authentic retail spines for all games, so I headed to thecoverproject.net and found a boatload of high quality boxes WITH retail spines, but not for every game so I just filled in the blanks, created retail spines for those without them. I even created box images for unlicensed and prototypes games. 888 games in total, some alternate covers here and there. The new 3D box template is larger than the old one since I was working with ultra high quality 2D images from the cover project. Here is the new box: As you can see, much better and of course, authentic. The dimensions are 903x1401, so its quite a large set but it looks great in Big Box. I do have a complete 2D set WITH Back, Left Spine and Front images. The dimenions on those are 3366x2100, and its almost 6GBs in file size so it will be a massive upload. I'll see if I can upload it after I upload this. I included as PSD template for those that want to create their own 3D boxes. Enjoy! nextria
Hello, Thank you so much for the template! I am trying to make some extra boxes for rom hacks, but when i open de psd in photohop, it shows double click & add artwork here, but when i double click it, nothing happens, can you please help me ?
WallyWonka
that "double click & add" stuff was a stock image from a older template, it isnt used in this template. you have to add your own image manually and use "create clipping mask" option. I added the template for those people with basic photoshop experience.
nextria
Thanks for the replay, i am sorry i am not really experienced with Photoshop, i am working on getting all the artwork for around 1300 nes roms and hacks. A lot is already available, but would love to have all the 3d box art too. Your template looks really great a love to have the missing art also available to everyone. If you could help me out a bit, maybe explain a bit more how to do it, i am a fast learner. thanks again !

WallyWonka
Very good work! Don't worry, I am not very good at Photoshop either. I searched for images or scans for this to help with the spine image, but I couldnt find anything, only a front box image. However, I do remember having a spine image from the Nintendo Game Boy version. Also made a 2D version of this (no back image tho). Hope this helps. And you did great on yours, but if you can find a decent image on the Piko Interactive spine for this title let me know. Good luck!

If you could help me out a bit, maybe explain a bit more how to do it, i am a fast learner. thanks again ! I am horrible with tutorials, and I don't even consider myself a Photoshop expert at all. But generally I like to make a 2D template of a box first (usually just the front and left spine is all that's needed). Once the 2D template is complete, I import that into my 3D box template. Before I do anything I press record to record the action for later. Once the action starts recording, I cut, resize, skew the images where they need to go, creating any clipping masks if I need to. Once everything looks good to go, I stop recording the action and save my work from there. If there is another game box I want to make, I repeat the process by creating another 2D version with the same exact dimensions of the other 2D box I made. I know this must sound confusing (especially if english isnt your first language), but this stuff will just come to you. This is how I learned, and still learn. You just have to keep doing, and messing up, and doing again. But if you are willing to learn and DO like you said, you will get it. Youtube tutorials are a help, but just tinkering even when you dont know what the hell you are doing is the best method for learning. Good luck! nextria
Ahh i understand, thank you so much. i have like 1298 roms, a lot of missing 3D box art. I am going to try and all the missing roms to launch box and and the artwork. will be a lot of work bit I think a lot of people will benefit from. could you also share the 2D template or was it also in the package with the 3D template ? with the spine it looks a lot better definitely going to make them like that ! WallyWonka
I don't think I included a 2D template in the download. Here is a basic one. It's the front, left spine and back. I only included the back for NES because they were easy to find in ultra good quality. You won't need the back part for Hacks and some homebrews, unless you want to make your own.NES 2D.psd
