Ryan32
Hi there. I keep changing my mind when it comes to using ntsc or PAL roms for my ps classic. I prefer PAL box art over ntsc but have heard that ntsc games run better than PAL (i live in Europe and have always used PAL) is there much difference when it comes to gameplay ? i would be interested to hear people's views on this, cheers Edited September 15, 2020 by Ryan32

This is due to us in Europe using the PAL TV standard and the US and Japan using the NTSC standard. PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC but is only 50hz, while NTSC is lower resolution than PAL, but runs at 60hz. Most game devs at the time did not take this into account, so PAL games often have a small black bar top and bottom of the screen due to the games being designed on the lower resolution NTSC format, and the games also physically ran slower, at only 50hz instead of 60hz. You can see this effect in motion by playing a racing game from both regions, you will actually get a slower time on the PAL version. What ps1 games does this notible diffenrence in gameplay occur ? I think Tekken is one example yet i have also seen videos comparing gameplay of Crash Bandicoot PAL/NTSC where there is no real evident difference in gameplay. Also i do find NTSC box art to be disappointing compared to PAL but maybe i am just being biased (would be interested to hear opinions on this too) Edited September 15, 2020 by Ryan32
Ryan32
From what i have read it seems like people are still debating ntsc/pal when it comes to the ps. Is anyone else using pal roms on their ps classic? I am thinking about using a combination of pal and ntsc depending on the game and how it will effect gameplay.
