dth930
I'm trying to add NES ROMs using Retroarch. The problem is that I can't get the ROMs to play... I click on them and nothing happens. The problem is not in Launchbox, though that's ultimately what I'm trying to fix. I've tested the ROMs in Retroarch using the Mesen core and they fail to load. I've tested using Mesen stand-alone and they also fail to load. Here's my question... I'm using the NES ROMs from the MAME Software List. I see that they are zipped .prg plus other files. Mesen is looking for .nes or .unf files so I'm not surprised that it doesn't like them, but I'm totally lost as to how (or if) I can use these ROMs in Retroarch with the Mesen core. Is this possible or have I gone totally astray? - Dave
Lordmonkus
I would suggest getting another rom set, specifically a No-Intro set.
dth930
OK - thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I was missing something obvious or just unable to do what I want with what I have. - Dave
Lordmonkus
Yeah I have never downloaded or used a Mame Software list rom set before but by the sounds of it the NES set uses a weird file extension that normal emulators don't support. And in all fairness to Mame it's non arcade emulation is generally pretty meh overall with some stand outs which are decent and Mame supports normal rom sets so their non CD based software lists are not exactly something I personally would recommend at this point in time.
