Question to builders about using an LED/LCD TV in portrait mode

Has anyone successfully used a TV in portrait mode in a cabinet build? I have an old machine and am converting it and it seems like a 42" TV would fit nicely in portrait mode to give me the best coverage and maintain a 4:3 ratio. Just wondering if anyone has done this and what they did to ensure the display worked correctly and only displayed where the monitor was viewable. In other words, portions of the TV display would be hidden behind the marque and control panel. So in reality I'd have about a 27" display (PERFECT!).

I hung my 40" on the wall in portrait mode - no regrets and lots of vertical game packs, my favorite is one that uses an arcade machine template for each game as you scroll left and right  it's kind of the poor mans arcade on the fly
