For those who having issue moving launchbox folder from internal storage to external sd card,

you will need to move your folder to the following path

/storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.unbrokensoftware.launchbox/files/

or

/storage/3731-6463(diff device different sd card number)/Android/data/com.unbrokensoftware.launchbox/files/

if you have problem downloading boxart after moving to path, please restart the app
hope this help

Tested device:

[Android 9] Retroid Pocket 2+

[Android 10} Redmi Note 10

So far dont see any issue, able to extract extension file before launch game

i read this from thread below

Its working on my samsung tablet

But i have adoptable storage on the shield pro

Meaning i merged my internal storage with HDD

And retroarch works by itself but when launchbox tries to launch a game it just shows black screen for several seconds.

And going back to launchbox gamemenu.

Please note that while this will work on some devices that are finicky and improperly configured, it should not be necessary to use that folder for most devices, and using that folder may cause issues with launching games.

If you're on Android 11+, please note that many issues with storage have been fixed in the latest LaunchBox for Android betas. You can upgrade to the betas by checking the option to Upgrade to betas in the Options screen, and then restarting the app.

Hi - I've done an export from Windows and moved the entire "Launchbox" folder to /storage/<card_number>/Android/data/com.unbrokensoftware.launchbox/files/  but see nothing when I start Lunchbox - just the default "Android Games" & "All Games" sections - is this correct? Do I need to do something else?

This is on a Retroid Pocket 2+ btw

Thanks in advance

@woody Ideally, you would not use that folder, and you should put the LaunchBox folder in the root of your SD card instead. The problem with using that folder is that emulators may not be able to access files in that folder. I don't have that particular device, though, but I don't trust that everything should work when you put everything in that folder.

The way that you would point LaunchBox to use those files though, is via Options > Data Folder.

I'm getting this when trying to export to the folder you said to use. I've been going around in circles all day trying to get this to work at all.

You can try a manual export instead, and copy the files manually, but that folder might not be accessible at all on PC. That's another reason why it's not recommended to use any folders inside of /Android/data.

Yeah in the end I had to set up my SD card as internal storage and do export to Android and then manually transfer my files letter by letter for it to work how I wanted.

Are you saying the way outlined below is not the correct way/location to move launchbox from internal memory to the sd card?

I used this method but can't see all my existing installed platforms.. I have tried pointing to the new location via options>data folder but it still doesnt show all my platforms.

Thanks

Yes. I don't have every single Android device available to me for testing, but there are many issues with putting your ROM files inside of that Android/data folder. The only thing we can recommend is using your LaunchBox folder in the root of your internal storage or SD card. If that isn't working, at this point unfortunately it's a problem with the device. If that's the case, then the only thing we can recommend is keeping your ROM files in a folder in the root of your SD card, but everything else in the LaunchBox folder the root of your internal storage, if that helps. But you'll create a lot of issues by putting ROM files inside of that Android/data folder.

I can certainly appreciate that. For clarity I have an AYN ODIN PRO. I have moved the launchbox folder out of the Android/data folder as you mentioned. I just need some clarity on where to point the launchbox app to from options>data folder. So far any folder selection results in just showing the generic platforms (android/all games/recently played).. All my platforms must be somewhere. Thanks

Ok so it does seem to be a permissions issue.

It says "Android is not granting read and write permissions to the folder you've specified, the selected folder cannot be used without read and write permissions"

Is there some way I can grant permission? I had a look in settings and the app is not being denied and I have moved launchbox to the sd card root directory.

@Atki2022 I don't have that device, but a lot of people do and are able to use it without any issues. It sounds like the typical issue that some people have been running into is that they've formatted their SD card as internal storage. I believe you need to make sure it's being loaded as an external drive and not as internal storage (the SD card shouldn't be being used for app installations).
