Mame roms not opening in retroarch via LB- what goes with .78 roms?

I can get mame running outside of launch box with retroarch but not within. If I tools---> import-->  mame fullset I don't see .78 which is what I have used along with mame 2003. I'm likely missing somethin obvious here.

If you are using Retroarch go to >Tools >Manage >Emulators and edit Retroarch. Make sure you do not have the box checked for "Extract Rom Archives..."

Is there any way to download mame 2003 so that it will show up as an option during import like mame .039 does (which I dowloaded via tools--> mame arcade full set. There was no choice for my .78 roms set- at least not as far I I could see.
