CPS games not Running Thru Launch Box (Retroarch)

Recommended Posts

i have set up cps 2 and 3 thru retroarch. i can load the cps roms thru retroarch standalone but whenever i try thru launch box it goes to the game startup screen than back to the platform/roms list

ive tried running it thru launchbox with multiple cores...

fbalpha_libretro.dll

fbalpha2012_libretro.dll

fbalpha2012_cps2_libretro.dll

fbalpha2012_cps3_libretro.dll

in retroarch (outside of LB) all of the 2012 cores work in loading the roms fbalpha loads both cp2 and 3 and cp2 & 3 libretro.dll load their own roms respectively. retroarch wont let me load a rom with the core: fbalpha_libretro.dll (its not in the suggested core list when i try to load a rom)

but no matter what i do in LB the roms wont run any possible help on this?

There are dozens of threads here on the forums asking the same question. Most likely you have Launchbox set to unzip your games when using Retroarch, that will break all arcade games, as they MUST remain zipped.

yea i went thru a couple of them some of them werent too helpful. it seemed like someone found one answer but i dont understand what they ment by they "changed the default core for arcade" and they never elaborated on how they did it. this was also back from 2016. i also did double check that launch box is not trying to unzip the files when loading the rom

OK, you have this all setup wrong going by your image. You dont add a retroarch core like that. Add retroarch itself as the emulator, call it Retroarch as well, this then gives you options that you wont have in the image you show there. When Retroarch is setup as a emulator, you can then set whatever core you have downloaded for whatever system you want, see below.

Which gives you access to the associated platform screen, which will list all the systems you want to run with Retroarch, as well as what core it is to use, which can be changed to whatever core you want.

CPS3 wont be in that list as its not a system, its just arcade, so you will need to scroll to the empty cell at the bottom of that list and manually add that system, making sure you call it EXACTLY what you called it when you imported the roms, and in the second dropdown that appears set it to "scrape as" arcade. Its also worth noting that CPS is just in a mame romset, so you dont need a separate platform if you have a mame romset

I would highly recommend taking a look at our youtube channel, where we have tons of step by step tutorials on setting up all sorts of systems with all sorts of different emulators.

yea so i already had a retroarch core  setup but those roms are also zipped and has the unzipping box checked so i made new ones 😛 i didnt realize there was a box in the associated platforms page to manually turn of extraction of the zip so i will go into the emulator and add them and set them up there and see if it works. i will report back after.

i did try to watch this. i downloaded fba and i got it all set up but it wouldnt load the rom.

i tried using MESS and i tried using MAME and i had a little bit of a hard time navigating the ui and getting it setup properly. than i found out that retroarch had cores for the systems so i decided to go that route and admittedly i used a video not from unbroken software. it was

otherwise ive been using most of the tutorials on the youtube channel to setup all the other things between both LB and BB

okay so im pretty sure i have it set up how you you said to. put it under the retroarch emulator added the system as i named it when i imported the roms and its still doing the same thing. they are scraped as arcade.

i originally "got" the cps romsets instead of the whole mame romset but i did decide to "grab" the mame romset so i have that now too.

i did find another video that said that launchbox basically sets up mame for you so i tried to do it that way after i "got" a hold of the MAME romset. but even when i tried to load a rom thru MAME in launchbox it does the samething goes to the game startup screen stays there for a couple seconds and than goes back to launchbox and nothing.
