Keeping ScummVM's **What Game is it** List up to date??

Not a new feature request, but we can see that from time to time, the ScummVM "What Game is it?" list has been updated... as Blade Runner, which recently got ScummVM support, now shows up in the Launchbox list. It wasn't always there.

Because this method of running the games is the best, no batch files needed, just find your game in the list and Launchbox launches it easy-peazy.

Can we add the next major releases ScummVM has supported over the last few years??

  • Escape from Monkey Island
  • Grim Fandango
  • The Longest Journey
  • Myst III: Exile
  • Private Eye
  • The Journeyman Project 2: Buried in Time
  • Marvel Comics Spider-Man: The Sinister Six
  • The 11th Hour
  • Clandestiny
  • Hades Challenge
  • Wetlands
  • Sanitarium
  • Chewy: Esc from F5
  • etc...

There's absolutely no point in updating the list unless the included version of ScummVM is updated to support the new games on the list. I've had an issue open since April asking to get the embedded v2.2.0 updated but as yet it's been completely ignored by the devs. They should either keep it up to date or simply remove it and provide a mechanism to "bring-your-own-scummvm" via configuration options.

The one thing I'll say on this is we have talked, and planned out, at length what we would want to do to revamp our ScummVM implementation to make it more self-sufficient, and it's on our long list of things to do. I can't promise when this will happen, but it's on the list.

Ok that's cool, at least they're aware.

I thought the option of "Fanmade Games" was supposed to be the more self-sufficient way, but I've never gotten any games to work with that option anyway.

For the record, this is the cleanest and easiest way to launch ScummVM so it should be given a little love.

If you right-click on one of your ScummVM games, then open ScummVM...

You should get the option to update it right from there, check out the photo it gave me today:

Yeah, but the next LaunchBox update will just overwrite it with v2.2.0 again! I've already updated it twice and then had my changes reverted on the next LaunchBox update. Even changing the installer to not overwrite the contents of the ThirdParty/ScummVM folder if the version of ScummVM.exe is later than the version being installed would be a big improvement.

Damn, you're right!

I updated Launchbox today and it reverted ScummVM back to 2.2

Not the worst bug, you can update ScummVM right after but pretty funny and annoying.

What I did is go into LaunchBox/ThirdParty/ScummVM and replace everything in here with the latest ScummVM (which gets installed and auto-updated inside LaunchBox/Emulators/ScummVM). So now it opens up 2.8. The list doesn't send the correct data (and I can't pick blank) so I start with a ScumMVM error, but then my game is in the list (in this case, The Longest Journey) and I can run it right from ScummVM. Not ideal, but it works.

Ideally, LaunchBox keeps this directory updated with the latest ScummVM, and this list is populated from the emulator's data files.

Since this thread, the ThirdParty ScummVM has actually been completely replaced with a new process that keeps ScummVM always up-to-date.

Here's a good video showing it off:
