Launchbox & GPD XP Plus

I happened to be one of those silly fools that bought the XP Plus. It works great (it should since it's basically a phone) but after installing a bunch of different emulators for each system, I decided to get Launchbox as the front end. Downloaded it, paid for the "forever" license and then started to set things up. However, it almost always wants to use RetroArch for things and I really hate RA...like being made to use DOS in 2022 hate it. Am I stuck just have to put up with it or is there some magical way I haven't found to be able to use all the individual emulators with it instead?

There are many different emulator options available for most platforms under the Emulator Settings for the platforms. That said, on Android especially, you're really shooting yourself in the foot if you avoid RetroArch, because it tends to have the best emulation available on Android for most platforms.

The only trouble is, no matter how many videos I watch or guides I read, I can not for love or money figure out the RetroArch interface. I know that sounds like I am an idiot (and maybe I am). I try to load a core & sometimes it stick, other times it doesn't. Then I have to load the content, which again sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I just attempted to load a NEO GEO game and RetroArch failed to load the BIOS or the game. Yet, I use a standalone emulator and it starts right up. But can I pick that emulator in the Launchbox options? Nope! I swear, someone needs to make a specific guide for the XP Plus or just a "RetroArch for the truly confused". I honestly gave slightly serious thought to going to the next gaming convention in the area with a sign reading "$100 cash to whoever can make this thing work like it should."

(I know this is a "me" problem and not really a LB problem as tons of others can figure it out without wanting a drink and a good cry.)

Two tiny tidbits that might alter your opinion of RetroArch; 1. You can download all the cores you need directly through RetroArch, no hassle of outsourcing. 2. You can change the menu appearance of RetroArch so that it can actually look kinda slick rather than "DOS"-like.

In theory, all you have to do in RetroArch is download a bunch of cores for the consoles you want and you'll effectively be able to boot them up directly through Launchbox without the hassle of all the "Load Core" malarky.

Here's a couple of videos that'll turn you into a RetroArch pro by the time you're done with them. Once it's all set-up, you'll never have to see the RetroArch menu ever again!
