Upscaling Query

Hi,

Very new to the world of emulation and this is my first post here.

I have just followed the below YouTube guide which has massively improved the quality of my PS1 games.

As I understand it though, ePSXe isn't compatible with RetroArch so my questions are:

1. Is there a way I can upscale like I have done with ePSXe within RetroArch?

2. If not, can I integrate ePSXe within my Bigbox set up and run my PS1 roms through that instead?

I'd be keen to replicate this for my other platforms if there are guides that anyone can recommend?

Yes, load up a PS1 game and open  the quick menu (F1 on keyboard or guide button on controller) and look for Core Options. In the Core Options you will find a setting for internal resolution. Performance may be impacted depending on the core you are using, for example if you are using the beetle software core it will be heavily impacted but if you use the beetle hardware core and you have some sort of GPU (not integrated graphics) the performance will be fine.

This works with other cores as well such as the Mupen core for N64.

You can use ePSXe if you prefer it for any reason but we tend to not recommend that emulator anymore, DuckStation is far better though ePSXe does have its place running on old slow hardware.

Most emulators for 3D based systems has some sort of internal resolution scaling but you will have to check on case by case basis. All the big name ones have support for it.

Thanks.

I'm running on a quad core i5 6500 with stock graphics and 8gb of RAM, so with that in mind and based on what you have said above, might I be better off going with Duckstation as opposed to either version of  beetle?

If so, is there any difference between upscaling through Duckstation as a core within RetroArch or as it's own standalone emulator?

If you are running Intel integrated graphics then upscaling the resolution may not run so well but try it out and see how it goes. Upscaling likes to be done on the GPU, upscaling on the CPU Is very performance unfriendly.

None, all emulators simply bump the internal resolution like a regular PC game would.
