MAME Freezing after LB/BB Pause

I have an odd issue with Mame that when I pause the game and unpause (with the BB Pause screen)  it freezes for anything between a few seconds up to maybe 30seconds...

It always resumes but it's a bit odd

Anyone know why this might be?

Pause without LB pause is fine!
