Looking for a recommendation - HDD is running out of space.

Does anyone have any experience with software that will allow you to reduce the size and quality of a massive number of images?  My Launch Box folder is approaching 700gb. I was thinking I could resize the images in place so I don't need to delete all this metadata I've been collecting. Anyone have any experience with this? If that is not viable then I'm going to need to do something.

Thanks for the link Rlad. This is exaactly what I am trying to do. I found a program called fotosizer that works well too. Also Ive started looking at the application Handbreak to compress my videos.

Just to follow-up, I resized all of the images for my Windows platform. 41,814 files. It was originally 15.7 GB. With the Fotosizer application I reduced the size of all the images by 20% and reduced the quality of the images by 40% which reduced the total size of images to 4.25 GB. So, I saved about 10GB for that one platform. I think the image quality is still more than fine. Here are the before and after examples:
