Multiple RetroArch configs for different monitors

I'm currently working on setting up a really nice Toshiba CRT TV as another monitor for my PC. Essentially, I want to be able to output 240p directly from RetroArch to the monitor, and am setting up a seperate RetroArch config file specifically for this. Ideally, I'd like to be able to right click any game and under Play With..., have the options like

"Retroarch (TV)"

"Retroarch (Main Monitor)"

"RetroArch (CRT TV)"

What would be the easiest way to do this? I figured setting up each option as seperate RetroArch emulators with command line options pointing to the different config files would be easiest, but is there a better way I'm missing?

sounds like a unique concept. I would agree you are going about it right, or at least, that is how I would attempt it. whether or not it works is another question, but that is how I would start.  so you have 1 instance of Retroarch installed on your PC, but you must add 3 entries into your Emulator list in LB. each of those entries in the Emulator list need to have them point to the different configs so they each launch the emulator onto the different display. sounds plausible to me. make sure each emulator entry has the same platforms and cores associated entered that way you can do exactly what you want by right clicking and you can then choose which emulator version through the "Launch With" option

I do something very similar to this but for controllers. I have a bunch of controllers that match the original system layout and Retroarch is terrible about custom configuration with different controllers using one install. Couldn't figure out how to do it with one so I have 5 separate installations. I default to one of them that is ideal for the platform I'm using but have the option to flip to a different one for whatever reason.

This sounds like it could work for you as well.

  • 1 year later...

The way I got multiple controllers to work is with x360ce. I combined all 6 of my controllers to a single virtual Xbox gamepad, used "HID Hide" so only the virtual controller is seen by Retroarch. I can even "Hot Swap" between controllers.

The only downside is that I can't map the "Guide" button as a hotkey in Retroarch. I had to sacrifice R3 for hotkey.

It's a convenient solution for me. Hopefully this helps!
