How to run Windows 3.x games?

I can't figure out how to get these games to work. Some posts I've seen talked about using DOSBOX Pure to launch the games and I've tried it with both ZIP and ISO files but none seem to work. I either get a black screen or something that says "This program requires Microsoft Windows". I'm a complete noob at using Launchbox and Retroarch so sorry if I'm just being desnse here.

the best I was able to do is I use VMware as a xp computer and most of my 3.x games work there. so in launch box theres a xp computer Icon

Fairly certain you can run 3.x in DOSBOX. I know eXo has a 3.x collection and I'm fairly certain that is what's used.
