xardius99
I just recently picked up LaunchBox with the Big Box upgrade. I have a fairly recent Windows 11 x64 PC build (https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/tfF4Kp) and i have a setup where i like to play in my living room with my 4k tv via an HDMI cable wired to my PC and an Xbox Wireless controller. I have 2 monitors for my PC and so my 4k tv is identified as my 3rd display. I have tried extending desktop to the 3rd display and duplicating on 1 and 3 but the following problem always persists: After playing on Big Box mode for a random amount of time, i will get a black screen with a 'shutting down' message in the middle of the screen. By the time, i head back downstairs to my PC, it has or is in the process of shutting down by itself (even though i have set Windows to never power down anything). I have tried different themes in Big Box to see if that could be the problem, but to no avail. Anyone ever have this problem and is there a solution ? Thanks for any help. (edit : attached a log i took a couple days prior). Debug 2023-06-17 03-10-45 PM.log Edited June 19, 2023 by xardius99
C-Beats
Do you have a key bind set to "Shut Down" that may be accidentally being hit? Are you actively interacting with your machine when it shuts down, or are you running attract mode and just notice it shuts down?
xardius99
No key bind to Shut down. Attract mode is off.
C-Beats
I'd take a look in Windows Event Viewer and see if there are application error logs that may be saying why the computer is shutting down then. Also what theme are you using? Does the experience change if using Default (if not already)?
xardius99
Thanks i haven't thought about checking Event Viewer for Applications (i did check for Systems tab though), this is what it says : Seems to mention something about .NET. As for themes, have tried 3D Dimensions (if i recall name correctly) and now using Default, with same problems. But i'm thinking maybe the problem has something to do with the version of .NET Framework being used ??
C-Beats
Can you go down one record and look at that one? Typically those errors come in pairs. The first one is the error that caused the crash, and the second is something just saying, "Yep it crashed!" and is far less useful.

xardius99
I see 2 separate files being referenced (per log) : BigBox.deps.json and LaunchBox.deps.json (no such file or directory)....
xardius99
Just verified and i had no version whatsoever of .NET Core installed, so i went ahead and installed the latest stable version (7.0). Going to do further testing tonight.
C-Beats
If you're on the latest version of LaunchBox you have no need to download the runtimes as they come with the application.
xardius99
Yes, i am using v13.5 of LaunchBox / Big Box. If that wasn't the problem, any other ideas ?
C-Beats
The current beta release would give relief to the .deps.json file missing but that shouldn't affect stability in any way. Very least it may be best to migrate to it so you can remove that error just incase it's hiding the real cause of the issue.
xardius99
Can you please link me to the beta download page ? If i go via Download on main site, it is for the official stable version via email. And if i click the Download tab in forums, i mostly see themes (unless i'm not looking correctly). Thanks !
C-Beats
Can't grab it from the website. You enable the beta updates in app. In Tools > Options there is an Update page where you can opt into beta releases.
xardius99
Have just updated to 13.6.1 beta. Btw, the installer only asks to install the DirectX runtime if i'm not mistaken (and not .NET Core)

xardius99
Well i did some more testing since adding the .Net Core v7.0 and Launchbox beta v13.6.1. Decided to put back my original theme (3D Dimensions) also. Was really stable for almost 2 hours straight (cycling through many arcade roms, playing up to a minute then switching to another). Then it crashed again :

Do the other logs have any useful information in them?
xardius99
Here is the log for event 8193 (see below), the same type of crashes continued occurring during the evening
C-Beats
We don't personally use VSS at all. It's basically a Windows backup process that is failing. Do you have a backup application running, or the automated backup systems in Windows enabled?
